Oba Martins All Set To Start At WBA

Good news, aklthough something we were expecting is that Nigeria international Obafemi Martins has recovered full from his groin operation and Joe Kinnear says there is a definite possibility that Oba will start tomorrow.

Oba Martins – so glad he’s back

The striker has been missed by the Tyneside club, and he’s been out for eight weeks following hernia surgery in Munich, Germany.

But another question is who will be partnered up front. The likely two are either Shola Ameobi or 20 year-old Andy Carroll, and we’d love to see Andy keep his place.

Apparently Martins came through a testing training session on Thursday in good shape, along with Mark Viduka and Alan Smith, who have also been out with injury. In fact Smith has yet to make an appearance for the first team this season, and Viduka’s made just 4 appearances so far this season, after coming back from injury, before he was injured yet again.

Not a good return for the club when you consider both players are earning £60K a week on Tyneside.

Newcastle manager Joe Kinnear said today:

“Oba is the nearest to starting and there’s a definite possibility that he may start,”

“They all had a make-or-break training session where we pushed them really hard and thankfully they all came through okay.”

Newcastle are just one point above the relegation zone and just a couple of points above WBA, who are rock bottom of the league.

A win will be great and a defeat will be a disaster tomorrow – so as usual there’s no half measures for Newcastle.    😀

Good team Dan. But Mr Kinnear, not Oba for the full 90. I’m very paranoid about having him back so soon. I know it can work out OK but the pessimist in me says “only 60-65 minutes”.

    3-1 the Toon! HTL!

3 Paul141726 – I agree. I would start Oba and take him off after an 60/70 mins, push Lovenkrands up front and put Duff on the left. In an ideal world anyway lol…

Haha, Duff is a great player, do you guys remember the amazing winner he scored against Tottentham? He just needs to play on his natural side. I am looking forward to the game, it is a very very important game for us.

Duff has a real problem beating the first man, he a winger how many crosses do you see him put in? Have to agree with Kash, hes poor enough..

Oba and Carroll are our best 2 upfront, owen is shite even though he’ll poach the odd one his work rate is abismal.. get shut of him in the summer…

Finally its a real pity Jfk didn’t get to swap zoggy for bent, I think he would have been a really good signing..

Great blog by the way Ed

Sounds like Coloccini is struggling so S. Taylor will push into the centre…

Joe Kinnear is a muppet of a manger and we are going nowhere until he is replaced. Ashley and Wise are idiots and Llambias is a fool.

I remember back when BFA was the gaffer and all of you on here were upset because it was rumored that he was looking to bring Nolan here. Now we have a bunch of people on here saying what a great signing he is. Is this the club we have become? Is this not a sign of our lowered expectations?

Every year will be a relegation struggle for us, until we have a different structure at the top and different manager on the pitch.

We are a second tier club. Nothing more until we take steps to change it.

    R.Taylor S.Taylor Bassong Enrique
    Smith Lovenkrands
    Carroll Martins

imo , harps is just not good enough..i’d rather try krul. 3midfield tackling with loven being a wing or wing forward and
    2wing back attacking !

Play the fat aussie, he’s hold up play is great even if he’s unfit.

Carroll I don’t rate very highly, even Viduka looks quick next to him.

since the crackdown on streaming games, havent seen the last three, i believe (first cup tie v hull was my last).

BUT, i’ve seen every other game and although Duff isnt who he used to be, get realistic, boys. Kinnear not to play him? c’mon, whether you like duff or not, whether you’re angry at the running of the club, we all know kinnear is inept and will play duff based on past laurels, like owen, like butt (although i admit with butt there hasn’t been much of an option).

he’ll sub oba in the 90th minute when it’s too late to do anything and he’ll put on geremi in his place to hold on for the draw! repeat of last WBA match.

    here’s to hoping he wont!

    2-1 to the toon tomorrow
