Good news, aklthough something we were expecting is that Nigeria international Obafemi Martins has recovered full from his groin operation and Joe Kinnear says there is a definite possibility that Oba will start tomorrow.
Oba Martins – so glad he’s back
The striker has been missed by the Tyneside club, and he’s been out for eight weeks following hernia surgery in Munich, Germany.
But another question is who will be partnered up front. The likely two are either Shola Ameobi or 20 year-old Andy Carroll, and we’d love to see Andy keep his place.
Apparently Martins came through a testing training session on Thursday in good shape, along with Mark Viduka and Alan Smith, who have also been out with injury. In fact Smith has yet to make an appearance for the first team this season, and Viduka’s made just 4 appearances so far this season, after coming back from injury, before he was injured yet again.
Not a good return for the club when you consider both players are earning £60K a week on Tyneside.
Newcastle manager Joe Kinnear said today:
“Oba is the nearest to starting and there’s a definite possibility that he may start,”
“They all had a make-or-break training session where we pushed them really hard and thankfully they all came through okay.”
Newcastle are just one point above the relegation zone and just a couple of points above WBA, who are rock bottom of the league.
A win will be great and a defeat will be a disaster tomorrow – so as usual there’s no half measures for Newcastle. 😀
