Xisco Keen To Play For Newcastle First Team

Our 22 year-old striker Xisco, looked good last night for the Reserves and scored two goals, and almost got a third, but the keeper blocked it, and 17 year-old Nile Ranger put the ball in the net for his 20th goal at the club this season.

Xisco – wants to play for first team

And according to club sources today, the reason Newcastle United have not risked Xisco, has been due to the player’s lack of fitness, and not for any appearance clause in his contract. You could have fooled us.

We are being told the young Spaniard has not been a 100% fit since he came to Tyneside, and with a fresh toe injury he picked up last night near the end of the Reserve team game – we hammered Wigan 5-0 at St. James’ Park –  he may be out again.

But the youngster has always had a good attitude and has always remained upbeat at Newcastle, and he told the Shields Gazette today:

“I came to Newcastle to play in the first team, but I will play in the reserves to build fitness. It’s OK.”

And the Spanish U21 International talked about the new injury:

“I feel pain in my toe. It is inflamed, and I will have to wait and see. I will know more on Tuesday.”

The striker scored two goals for the Reserves lasy night and seems keen to get some chances in the first team before the end of the season:

“You’re always happy when you play, and if you score it’s even better, but playing is the most important thing,”

“It was a very good ball from Ryan (Donaldson) for the first goal, and for the second goal I was alone in the box. To score two goals was good.”

“But I wasn’t thinking about a hat-trick. If you play, you just want to score.”

Xisco came to Newcastle in a supposed £5.7M move from Deportivo La Coruna last summer, but we’re still not sure if some of that figure is made up of appearance bonuses.

    Ryan toon….

No; he should not be getting more of a chance in the first team. There is lovenkrands, ameobi, martins, carrol, viduka, smith & owen all ahead of him!

    How can you rate him??? whenever he has played for newcastle he has been nothing short off appauling! That great little cameo on sat when he came on summed him up for me;

“it falls to xisco; he turns…he shoots…he completely misses the ball and fires an air shot…”

That might sound harsh; but we all fell about laughing watching that air shot on sat!

He might prove me wrong (At another club; he won’t be here by the end of next season). He sounds like a pretty sound kid; it’s not his fault we paid so much out for him; he is simply not good enough to play for our first team.

He deserves a chance this guy,i reckon with a run in the team he could be on fire but any player needs 3games or so to get match fit.
He has played ok when he has come on,we just had Butt who couldn`t PASS WIND to the strikers but with Nolan,Barton,Guthrie n Smith maybe they can thread balls through for the strikers to score 20 in a season.

kevin its people like you who are the reasonw hy decent players leave this club.

hes played around 3 games, yes he hasnt impressed but you cant judge someone of that age arriving in a new country and immediately decide is worthless!

frankly when bellamy signed i thought we doverpaid for him because his first 4 games or so he was awful, but i stuck by him as did everyone else and he became a really good player. show some faith in the lad, if you were out there playing how would you feel.

5 million for a striker is not much. 15 million was for a top striker 12 years ago.

other clubs spend in the 20s for a top striker.

what do you expect of a 5 million striker to do.

bassong mediocre at best – the next sylvain distin

    guthrie mediocre at best

do i rate villa players? i don’t rate them at all.

what makes them tick – i think it’s martin oneil

mediocre players getting the best out of them in a system that gets results!

put mediocre players in the hands of a nimwit a puppet to another muppet

Both viduka and ameobi offer us far more!!!

I feel pretty harsh on the lad with how harshly i have criticised him! Give him a chance; throw him in????? How many games do we do that for before realising he isnt up to standard?

Not going to argue; it’s my opinion. We will never do anything in this league with players of that calibre (I include both shola and viduka in “that calibre” bracket).

We have a good young player in Carrol; a great prospect in Ranger. The xisco money should have been invested in a right midfielder to replace milner! We bought Xisco with the money we recieved from milner!

I agree with Lua Lua,Ranger n Carroll should be getting runs in the team…..
Just reckon we have given Smudge more than 2many chances and he will continue to get them even though he cannot score yet i hope that will change
Xisco maybe wont hold the ball up like Ameobi but he can attack the goal much better n scare defenders as he is way more direct
Would love to see Ranger in there i reckon he wiil get in the team after the summer break

If we pay 5.7 million for a player; i expect him to be able to play in the 1st team right away! I was at upton park when xisco started against west ham; he showed me nothing to suggest that we had someone who could do a job for newcastle united football club! nothing at all!

When you talk about people like me; are you refffering to “people who care deeply about their football club; people who pay alot of money to follow their club; people who do not sit bye when their football club is being made a mockery off; people who have a right to voice their opinion, especially when they see there hard earned money going on players who are not good enough for their team”?

I never criticise a player in a black & white shirt on the field. (with the exception of charlie in our last home game he played).

However; i think the 20k a week that he is probably recieving negates me to fee any real pity towards him and his reserve team football plight!

When praise is merited i dish it out!

I care passionately about this football club! It hurts me to see my club in the mess we have been in!

I cannot praise mediocre performances and overpaid players who are just not good enough!

    Shining lights in a terible season for me;

    Bassong – a real find!

Carrol – A local lad who look’s like he could make it.

Signing nolan & r.taylor – players i believe will give me the 100% effort i’m looking for!

Harper being given his chance to shine.

Jonas – who i believe will go on to be a very good player for us!

Other than that; what have i had to be positive about? I am a realist! We still could be relegated.

I have seen in total; three victories at st. james park this year! No-one has a god given right to win football matches; but in some of those games i have seen players who have not been playing with the fight, passion and heart i want to see by those lucky enough to be wearing the black and white shirt!

I get more excited than a fat lass in a chippie when we play, like a mackem lass on E when we win! When we lose i’m like a mackem lass going home after a night out who hasnt pulled and then has just realised she has no batteries left at home!

I just tell it like it is; this season we have been dreadfull; i havent painted over the cracks with my comments! If you don’t like it; dont read what i have to say.

My top 5 strikers at the club (w/out Owen) would be Oba, Carroll, Loven and Xisco and Ranger.

Give him a run in the reserves so he’s up to match fitness THEN give him a couple of starts against either a team we’re going to lose to or beat easily so we can compare him to what we’ve got already. Personally I think he’ll come good and score some good ‘uns

I have no seen sufficient of Xisco to state one way or another whether he would make the grade, my big fear is that he is not fast enough either physically, or in his mind.

As to young Ranger, a great prospect but too young and definitely not ready yet for the step up into the first team as yet.

The only one I think that is showing signs of being ready from the kids is Kazenga.

We are probley one of the only teams who would pay 5.5m for a player and not even give him a chance. He must be giving time to get used to English football and adjust to life up here. A think it would be a complete waste of time if we sell him, we would only get about a million back for him and the kid is still young, if we had good coaches at nufc we could develop this kid and work with him. Mugs dont play for spainsh international teams, even if it is under 21’s. Give him a run of games, then judge him.

Mags I agree 100% Nile Ranger needs another year to add some muscle or hes going to take too many knocks and spend the rest of his career getting over injuries and Kazenga Lua Lua looks more ready step into the first team every time I see him. Xisco is average at best and was just a panic buy to try and please the fans.

kevin, you know as well as i know your voice wont be heard because of the moronic way the club is being run.

i never sed xisco was worth 5.7 million, and i dobut he ever wil be, but thats not the players fault, the only thing we can do right now is support the team, and if we wernt so critical of players like xisco who havnt had a chance maybe he can do better.

he MIGHT turn out to be worth it and come good, then again he may not be, but there is no point in writing him off as a failure now. we need to make the best of whagt we have got.

and im with you about the passion, but xisco probably has no idea about it and will appear lazy on the pitch, but if u watch any spanish foootball match youll see no different

spanish players are like that, you only get a few who put in maximum effort, as the league is based more on technical play, if you went over to a foreign country and had no idea about the culture, should you be blamed for your mistakes?

Kinnear hinted at this a while back Ed, he said (very roughly) that from training, he looked way off the pace for the Premiership at that stage. Though he didn’t actually use the word ‘unfit’, that was what he meant. Good to have some clarification though.

I saw the Premier Reserve league match last night, observations…….

LuaLua was by a country mile man of the match. He was quick, skillful and twofooted. He scored an absolute screamer and IS GOOD ENOUGH NOW for the first team. Only because of Duff, Jonas and Taylor ect and his young age (18) is he not playing. I would like to see Joe start to use him in the first team this season though.

Xisco looked class. Had a slow start but once he got going he outclassed their defenders in the air and had good control. Deserved his two goals and nearly got a hat-trick. He also beat a fullback/winger down the wing for pace. I would like to see him given a chance instead of Ameobi sometime. I like this lad and have said before he has some Shearer like qualities.

Smith was pretty rubbish really. Predictable as usual and half the player Xisco is unfront. Although he played in midfield.

    Forster 6
    Tavernier 7
    Lough 5 (Ferguson) 7
    Doninger 6
    Cacapa 8
    Edgar 7
    Donaldson 6
    LuaLua 9
    Xisco 8
    Smith 5
    Danquah 7 (Ranger 7)

To be honest Kevin, Only going on what I saw last night, I fully fit Xisco would be much faster and more effective than those two. He has a far better touch and footballing brain than Carroll. He worked well with Ranger when he came on. But Ranger is only 17 remember.

I would like to see him given a run in the first team if Lovenkrands, Martins ect were out. Look how long it has taken Enrique to settle in. I don’t think it would take Xisco that long. But be fair he has hardly been given the chance has he.

Ok im going to try and put this to bed.

Xisco has played 7 games for us.

#1 Debut vs Hull (h) Plays Full Game Scores

#2 v West Ham (a) Plays Full Game

    #3 v Spurs (h) (cc) 18 Min Sub App

    #4 v Blackburn (h) Plays Full Game

    #5 v West Brom (h) 17 Min Sub App

#6 v Hull (h) (fa) Plays Full Game

    #7 v West Brom (a) 1 Min Sub App

So hes played 4 Full Games and Scored Once
The game at home against hull in the cup he played better than owen.

Interesting Fact them 4 games he was partnered with owen so maybe they cant play together. Give the lad time he’ll come good in the end and if he doesnt at least he can’t be worse than ameobi.
