Our 22 year-old striker Xisco, looked good last night for the Reserves and scored two goals, and almost got a third, but the keeper blocked it, and 17 year-old Nile Ranger put the ball in the net for his 20th goal at the club this season.
Xisco – wants to play for first team
And according to club sources today, the reason Newcastle United have not risked Xisco, has been due to the player’s lack of fitness, and not for any appearance clause in his contract. You could have fooled us.
We are being told the young Spaniard has not been a 100% fit since he came to Tyneside, and with a fresh toe injury he picked up last night near the end of the Reserve team game – we hammered Wigan 5-0 at St. James’ Park – he may be out again.
But the youngster has always had a good attitude and has always remained upbeat at Newcastle, and he told the Shields Gazette today:
“I came to Newcastle to play in the first team, but I will play in the reserves to build fitness. It’s OK.”
And the Spanish U21 International talked about the new injury:
“I feel pain in my toe. It is inflamed, and I will have to wait and see. I will know more on Tuesday.”
The striker scored two goals for the Reserves lasy night and seems keen to get some chances in the first team before the end of the season:
“You’re always happy when you play, and if you score it’s even better, but playing is the most important thing,”
“It was a very good ball from Ryan (Donaldson) for the first goal, and for the second goal I was alone in the box. To score two goals was good.”
“But I wasn’t thinking about a hat-trick. If you play, you just want to score.”
Xisco came to Newcastle in a supposed £5.7M move from Deportivo La Coruna last summer, but we’re still not sure if some of that figure is made up of appearance bonuses.
