Newcastle have signed three players to new contracts at Newcastle recently, and Derek Llambias has indicated they are working on three new deals for current players at the club.
Oba Martins – important to keep this player at Newcastle
The Evening Chronicle is reporting today that Newcastle are working new deals for Habib Beye, Oba Martins and Damien Duff, to keep them at the club
Newcastle of course recently extended deals to three important players in Ameobi, Butt and Harper, although the negotiations took several weeks to complete.
Derek Llambias said today:
“We’ve done new contracts for Harper, Shola and Nicky Butt.”
“We’re doing three more as well. We’re constantly on the move with those.”
“We’re renewing contracts and we’re reviewing our team all of the time.”
As we suspected, it looks like Mark Viduka, Brazilian defender Claudio Cacapa and David Edgar are not being offered new contracts, and we don’t expect Newcastle to try to keep these players in the summer.
Comments welcome.

Comment #1I presume the only reason they’re giving such players new contracts is to sell them on for a fee. But i’d ratehr we got rid of Duff and OWen, and maybe give Oba a new contract if we think we can sell him for more than £13m. Otherwise, not worth giving him a new contract!
Whats that on the grassy knoll

Comment #2I know everyone seems to be putting forward Martinez, but what about Alan Irvine, mananger of PNE. He worked for Newcastle, then Everton and turned around PNE, who are in the playoff places above Swansea!!!

Comment #413 mil for martins?? ye right. We should be be happy to get 8-9 mil for the injury prone-selfish-shoot whenever you get the ball-player. Ed what makes you think Ameobi is an important player. Why is everyone beating a dead horse. He is not good enough, not even for the reserves. I think it would be good for himself if he chooses to go to another team,CCC.

They need to be working on a new contract for Donaldson! He is out of contract at the end of the season.

Comment #7Just watched the highlights of the reserves 5-0 thrashing of Wigan. Xisco scored two and basically set up the other two scored by Nile and Cacapa.

Comment #11Whats that on the grassy knoll – yes Irvine is doing well with PNE and has served his apprenticeship well both with Newcastle youth team and then with Moyes at Everton. I like the guy very much, you do realise though his style of play is much more defensive minded , unlike the style Martinez advocates.
Who says these are the three players whose contacts are being negotiated?

Comment #12This really does confuse me. We need to reduce wage costs as a percentage of turnover to remain solvent. Personally, I find some of the wages paid to Premiership footballers offensive and I also hate the idea that we have to pay more to attract players ‘up north’. I’d rather have players who want to play for a big club in front of a full house. With those comments in mind I would support NUFC setting a limit on wages of say £50k per week. If that means losing some of our big names, so be it.
If they can be persuaded to stay then I’d keep Beye, Duff and Martins. I can’t see Owen staying for less tha he’s on now so I say let him go.
My squad for next season:
Harper, Krul, Forster
Beye, Taylor (R)
Enrique, Kadar
Bassong, NEW CB – Jonny Evans maybe
Coloccini, Taylor, Edgar
Jonas, Lua Lua
Duff, NEW LM – Gamst Pederson maybe
Barton, Guthrie
Nolan, Butt, NEW CM (creative) – Johnson ?
Martins, Lovenkrands, Ranger
Carrol, Ameobi, Xisco
Yep, I’d keep Edgar ‘cos he’s versatile like Aaron Hughes (and not that bad)
I would have sold Ameobi and released Butt but too late for that now
Let go – Owen, Smith, Cacapa, Geremi – saving pots of wages
Keep Enrique, Martins, Krul as these players are the future and ABOVE ALL – get Bassong on a long contract ASAP – class act.

Comment #13Oba, Duff & Beye, quality players, keepers.
Harper, it will become obvious why he played second string to Shay, if it has`nt already.
Butt, once a good player, but legs have gone and as a result mistake prone.
Viduka, do I have to explain.
Cacapa, same as Butt.
Edgar, not going to make it as PL player.

sign Martins and Beye
get ris of Ameobi, Viduka, maybe Carroll,Smith..
I think we need a real winger/side midfielder LM with good pace and cross and also dribbling and maybe 1 creative CM and if Owen goes somewhere esle, we need a real goalscorer (maybe not, if Xisco gets a chance and will play good)..

Comment #18We’re presuming that the 3 players are Duff, Martins and Beye…..noone has said it is them.
However one could well be Carroll! We know that his contract talks have stalled of late but i’m sure communications are ongoing.
I’m very hopeful that Beye’s contract will be one of those as he is out of contract in 2010!
Duff and Martin are the year after! Both would be giving contracts for me.
Lets not forget Lovenkrands, prehaps its too soon to be discussing his contract, but a few more games like the one at the Hawthorns then i would be offering a 3 year deal.
There are worryingly a number of youngsters coming our of contract and it will be interesting to see what the clubs does with the likes of :
Edgar
Danquah
Morris
Donniger
Donaldson
Godsmark
Marwood
Lough
All of whos contracts are up in the summer!

Surprised they want to keep Duff who is quite wage demanding, and not the youngest either!

Comment #21Lots of slaggings-off of players on here – I do wish people would support the team rather than laying into players like that.
Martins is so important to us, and we’ve missed him and Beye more than any other players IMO.
Duff is starting to show his worth and I think he gets undeserved stick. I am wondering if he needs to be on the left wing, though – which leaves a bit of a gap on the right…
Shola’s done ok too – I just wish he’d stay fit enough to be consistent. He may look like a zebra having a fit, but he tends to produce one or two clever touches in a game which change the result – as was the case against WBA.
Butt is a goodun when you need an experienced battler, but I’m not sure he’s got another season in him.
Dukes is mashed.
Owen’s an interesting one. If we can get him on reasonable dosh, I think we should keep him. Partly for his goals, but also as a brand-enhancer to help us raise sponsorship, sell shirts and (most importantly) get other good players in.

Is that not because they’re coming to the end of their accademy contracts and about to sign full pro contracts?
My mate played for the academy until he was 18, he injured his back just before the end of the season and didn’t sign (he’s at Falkirk now) but as far as I’m aware, they kept it open up until the last minute..

Comment #24I understand you guys TOM TOON n Co shoutin on about gettin rid of DUFFER as he earns big wages but he is apart from BEYE our most consistent performer this season……..
Several assists in very important games and a good attitude n works hard too.
Not the greatest crosser at times yet has a great left foot.
Ten times better player than JAMES “run to the byline n let the ball go over before crossing” MILNER

Comment #25Donaldson is a really PL proven player for sure, lol
There is such a huge difference playin PL instead of Youth or reserves.
I hope some of them get grafted into the team but saying they have made it when they haven`t tied their laces yet is just Stupid

Comment #26Marty-Toon – Consistently running in circles and when let a promising youngser like Donaldson go. We need to keep our best youngsters to develop. You really aint bright. You only like Duff as he is Irish, it seems only he Irish posters actually rate Duff.
He is a joke, 80k a week for running in circles.
Duff is a cancer eating away at the club with his wages, the only good thing is he tries.
