Danny Guthrie is on his way back and may be available for the Bolton Wanderers game on March 1st.
Danny Guthrie – back for Bolton game on March 1st
Danny has not played for Newcastle since the January 17th defeat away to Blackburn Rovers, and since then of course we’ve brought in Kevin Nolan to add more competition to the midfield.
Acting manager Chris Hughton is keen to get Danny back into the squad, and the 21 year-old has had a very good first season at the club and has already appeared 21 times for the Magpies with two goals.
Guthrie has been in light training this week, since returning from his groin strain, and he has suffered no setbacks so that’s good news for the lad.
Chris Hughton talked about Danny today to the Shields Gazette:
“At the moment Danny’s running again,” “His progress has been very good, which is a positive sign.”
“You sometimes get players who have setbacks in their rehab, but, at the moment, that’s not the case. He’s running, and running very well at that.”
“It’s a question of stepping up his running, but we still expect him to be out for a while yet.”
Newcastle will resume their Premier League campaign on February 22nd with a home game against Everton, and will of course be without manager Joe Kinnear.
And Guthrie could well be back for the visit to his old club Bolton Wanderers – where he was on loan last season, and where he will be keen to play along with former Bolton player Kevin Nolan, now at Newcastle.
