Kevin Nolan Made To Measure For Newcastle United

Kevin Nolan was a very welcome addition to the Newcastle squad when he was signed less than 24 hours after our 2-1 loss at The Eastlands a couple of weeks ago.

Kevin Nolan – another leader at Newcastle
Kevin told the Evening Chronicle today:

“It’s important we consolidate this year, and then we can go on to bigger and better things next season. That’s why I am here.”

“Outside the top four, there are not many clubs who have the fanbase and stadium to rival Newcastle, and that was a massive attraction for me.”

The performance against WBA was just what the club needed, and although it wasn’t pretty, it was a good performance from the lads, who certainly didn’t lack the spirit or courage, which is very important in fighting relegation.

Nolan did his part too, and he linked with Nicky Butt right from the start, and it was hard to believe it was his very first game for the club.

Nolan added:

“I’m sure, given the position we’re in, the fans will be right behind us.” “They want to be where they belong, and we want to be where we belong.

“With us working together, I’m sure we can go on to better things. “I don’t think we’ll have any problems with the ability we’ve got in the squad.”

We really do hope the Newcastle fans will be behind the lads, and that the demonstration planned by NUSC before the Everton game is called off.

If it would help us beat Everton we’d be all for it, but it will  do just the opposite.

Kevin Nolan feels that Newcastle can finish the season strongly with plenty of football still to be played, and certainly our three new players have given the lads a big boost and we also have Smith, Viduka and Martins coming back from injury too.

Smith and Viduka have a lot to prove, and while we think the decision has already been made not to keep Viduka, Smith can save his career by playing well – and getting some goals – in the last 13 games of the season.

Kevin continued:

“Recently, Newcastle have been very unlucky with injuries more than anything.”

“They’ve always had the players and the ability to do it, but at the wrong times they’ve had players out with injury.”

“If we can get the likes of Michael Owen, Joey Barton and Mark Viduka back as quickly as possible, you’re talking about world-class players.”

“If you’ve got them in your team, you’ve got every chance.”

It will be interesting to see how Joey and Kevin play together once they start in midfield. Both are box to box players, like Danny Guthrie, so our central midfield is already starting to look rather good.

It’s great to have a player at the club with the character, skill and drive of Kevin Nolan.  Kevin is just the kind of player Newcastle fans love.

Comments welcome.

Ed, if you’re just going to regurgitate the same things over and over again, you could be a little more subtle about it!

Err Kevin, you have Oba back, imo more important than most as on his day he can help take pressure off the rest of the team by his threat up front.

Nolan and Barton mf sounds good combination to me.

Nolan is an excellent signing and a player that can keep us in the PL.

First team central midfield of Nolan and Barton with Butt and Guthrie on the bench appears very strong……

Average hard worker,..a few years ago we would have laughed at these type of signings…we lack flair and creativity..I can hardly remember a game all season that has seen us produce 90 mins of quality football.

Ed… the reason it’s hard to believe it was his first game is because it was his second game after the makems.

I agree, he’s no Ronaldo or a world beater but we can’t afford this type of player these days!

He is a good quality workhorse, every team needs and should have one. I don’t think he would argue or quibble about that as an assessment either.

Hello lads, believe me Kevin Nolan is going to be one of those players that you don’t fully appreciate till he’s gone ie Gary Speed. In times like this give me players of his calibre any day of the week compared to the so called headline writers, money grabbing superstars. C’mon lads get behind them. FFS we need to.

NUSC is an organised group out of embarrass the club, the region and the majority of the fans. They will be there to protest, to look silly without realising that what they are doing is pointless and childish.

“a few years ago we would have laughed at these type of signings”

Aye, because we wanted Fat Freddy to dangle shiny baubles like Shearer, Rooney and Owen before our eyes without thinking for a minute about building a cohesive squad. Nolan was an excellent signing, like Speed or Lee were.

Toon ksk what’s that got to do with this???Wether NUSC are right or wrong in their actions they are entitled to do what they are ‘paying’ for. Although i agree to some extent their timing of this rally could be better.

I reckon there’ll be goals in it MM. And I don’t think we’ll keep a clean sheet. So it’s an optimistic 3-2 for me.

Yeah a good signing, strong on the ball, tall and good in the air, gets his goals, good work rate, not quite Garry Speed but close. Cant believe Megson let him go for 4.5.m.
But I also can`t believe we did`nt get Mbia or Sissoko, even Appiah, the one important position we badly need to fill beside defensive help.
Dont mention Butt or Guthrie, one is unfortunately past it, the other will never be more than a bench filler on any decent team.
Perhaps we could convert Joey into a DM seems to have a good engine.

You had better start liking him because if we are in the championship next season he is the most likely candidate for team captain.

I’d hope Nolan would allow Barton to be more the creative attacking one. But its always good to have 2 who can both defend and go forward, rather than ‘he’s the defensive one and he’s the attacking one’.
I hope he does ok. Don’t build him up to be more, it just makes his job harder. But for 4 million he’s a good buy alright.

I have no idea how anyone of our fans can knock the signing of Kevin Nolan, it’s beyond me, it really is.

He is a midfield fighter, is good on the ball, good passing range, gets goals, tackles and has great leadership capabilities! What more could you want?

You cannot, cannot have all Ronaldinho’s and Kaka’s, A Nolan type is most vital in the Premiership, and just like David Batty and Rob Lee, Nolan will give us what they did along with Barton it goes along way to providing our best midfield pairing since the “entertainer” days!

I am astounded Bolton let him go, to a relegation rival, for pittance. You watch it will be the downfall of them, and it will be the making of us, thats how big a role Kevin Nolan will play.

If we survive and get Joey Barton and Kevin Nolan fit and playing the majority of games next season, we’ll be a competitive force.
