Returning Players Raising Morale At Newcastle

Chris Hughton is pleased to have Oba Martins back fit again, along with some other experienced players.

Oba Martins – back from groin injury

Hughton spoke about Martins to the Evening Chronicle today:

“It’s a big boost to see him back training and in contention again.

“He’s a quality player in a really important position as well.”

“When you look at the quality he’s got and the threat that he poses to teams, it’s a big plus for us.”

Martins has scored 6 goals this season and is 4 goals behind top scorer Michael Owen, who himself  hopes to be back at the end of this month.

But there’s no doubt the players returning form injury are giving Newcastle United a big boost, just when  we need to start pulling away from the relegation zone, and secure our safety in the Premier League, just as soon as we can.

And Hughton is pleased that the return of other experienced players is helping lift the spirits on the training field.

Chris added:

“It’s not just Oba.” “It’s important that the first team group can look around on the training field and see other quality players around them.”

“Of course, with people like Cacapa and Alan Smith now back in the fray and having completed reserve team games, and people like Mark Viduka back, it boosts everybody.”

“Whether they are fully fit or not, it’s important to have them around.” “It adds to competition and lifts spirits.”

We need a bigger squad next season, because the one thing that has hit us hard regularly are injuries, and we need a squad big enough to get through these times, which comes for every team at different times during the season.

Only then can we look at doing well in the league again, and hopefully that will be next season.

That’s the hope, in any case, and it will make a big change not continually worrying about relegation.

Here’s a little something for all you new manager fantasizers out there (from nufc.com):

    “Latest quotes from Chris Hughton:

“We all feel for Joe and wish him well. The ideal scenario, and the one that we all want to see, is Joe back amongst things before the end of the season.

“He’s out for a period of at least two months but when he can actually come back, that is a matter for the doctors.

“Until then I’ve been told that nothing will change – I’ll look after the side assisted by Colin Calderwood. I don’t know what has been said elsewhere, but that is something that has been said to me.”

I hope nobody goes to the rally, they’re wasting their time in whatever it is they’re trying to achieve. It just makes us all look like morons when we get these attention seeing idiots poncing around on the monument

yes Craig, they’ll probably be whining on about the ‘lack of communication’ at the club. The irony of this ‘lack of communication’ being adequately displayed on the NUSC website – nobody seems to know wtf the ‘rally’ is about! The NUSC certainly aren’t keeping anyone informed about it on their own website.

What is this rally about, I hope its not more divisiveness dressed up as support for the club.
You have been told how the club will operate in future, behave yourselves and get behind the project.
Back the kids with your total support when they arrive and play in front of you at St James Park.
Don’t follow the destructive path and criticise them until they lose confidence as has so often happened in the past.
We claim to be the best supporters in the land, so prove it!

Craig Chester, for your information, the attention-seeking idiot poncing about on the monument is Earl Grey.

If Hughton and Calderwood don’t look like they can keep the ship afloat any thoughts on what the Cockneyscenti will do about it? – bring in Venables as a troubleshooting temp, or appoint a new man and cut Joe adrift? Lawrenson reckons they should do the latter right now, with Bruce, Shearer, and a few others mentioned in the papers.
If it comes to that, how about this lad, Martinez at Swansea – http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/football-league/roberto-martinez-the-next-arsene-wenger-1609097.html
