Chris Hughton has talked today about the tough run of fixtures that lie ahead for Newcastle.
Chris Hughton and Joe Kinnear – have worked well together
Hughton spoke to the Evening Chronicle today:
“These are challenging times, and at these times you have to be able to look at a group of lads and be confident that they will all perform well enough to get you were you want to be at the end of the season.”
“I’m confident that this group of lads can do that.” “These are games you want to be involved in.” “The bonus is that the bulk of these games are at home.”
Newcastle have done well since the three new boys have come to town, with 4 points form our last couple of games against Sunderland and WBA. Those were points we desperately needed, if only to prevent the other teams from getting those points from us, and getting a jump on us in the league.
We are now 5 points ahead of WBA, but if West Brom had won 9 days ago, they would be one point ahead of us, such are 6 pointers.
And the way the new lads have played, along with their positive attitudes, and the good words they had to say about the players already at the club, and they seem to have given the players and the fans a big lift, in the last couple of weeks.
Hughton continued:
“There’s a lot of football to be played, and it’s not just about us.”
“All we can do is look after our own results, but what you also need is help along the way. You always hope that the teams around you, and below you especially, don’t pick up the results they need.”
“Any team in that group around us will look at their fixtures between now and the end of the season and won’t see too many easy games – we aren’t any different.”
Chris had a miserable and lonely time of it when he first took over after Kevin Keegan left, but to be fair to him, the club and the players were still in upset over how Kevin left the club.
The club at that time was in complete disarray, and it affected the players’ performance on the field of play, unfortunately.
But Chris now has a chance, in calmer times, to show what he can do with the first team, and we really hope he can keep the good results coming, starting next Sunday afternoon against the Toffees.
Hungarian 18 year-old Tamas Kadar, who is one of our very top youngsters at the club, has now returned to Tyneside, after spending a few weeks back in Hungary with his family, after he broke his leg in a Reserve game against Sunderland.
He is to start some rehabilitation at the Newcastle training ground, in the hope that he will be fully fit before pre-season starts.
We are even looking for this lad to be pressing for a first team spot next season, as some of our best youngsters start to show what they can do for the first team.
Comments welcome.

Comment #41BAG….Yeah you’re probably right mate,i forgot about his injury.
I read the news yesterday about Tottenham’s interest in Darko Lazovic….Very good player,i think he’ll replace Stankovic in few years from now in the national team.

Comment #42Re this extract from the Llambias podcast……… “Dennis Wise is in charge of player recruitment, but only has major say on young players for the Academy.
“He also carries out negotiations for players for the senior team – but according to Derek – only with say so of the manager, who gives him a list of the players he wants”
Points to ponder…..
If Wise has responsibility for negotiations for senior players, he can effectively decide who comes in – think about it, if he doesn’t want, he’ll scupper the negtiaitons by failing to show any real determination to get the signatures!
To be honest, whilst he may have an eye for young talent, I believe has has the wrong personality for senior recruitment and appears to be near-universally disliked, is too intent on his own spiteful agenda, out of his depth and clearly the wrong one to sell the club to any prospective signing.
by all means, exploit Wise’s strengths and re-define his role to that of Chief Scout or if he’s not happy with that, get rid of him and recruit someone who will act as a genuine ambassador for the club.
However, in thinking about that, let’s bear in mind that our renowned ex PM, Blair, was appointed ambassador for peace in the Middle East…… akin to putting King Herod in charge of a creche!!!

Comment #48Thing about Jenas is, he is incredibly inconsistent, but on his day he is a great player to have in the big games. I can see Spurs selling him and then buying him back.

Comment #49Christ on a bike – news in thin on the ground at the moment! Bearing in mind our manager is in hospital recoving from heart surgery, and we are in desperate need of someone to replace him, I’m surprised that the best news coming out of town is that Viduka is leaving in the summer (is that even news to anyone?) and that someone scored in the reserves.
Still, I suppose they say that no news is good news? Or at least that’s what the Newcastle board want us to believe, lol

Comment #52Concerning the strikers…we have waaayy too many of them atm.
I would like the following players out:
Owen-105k
Duff-60k(i’m not sure)
Viduka-65k
Smith-55 k
Cacapa-35 k
Geremi-60k
Ameobi-40 k
Thats around 20 mill we save on those injury prone players + we’ll get around 11 mill from their transfer fees + 15 mill from Mike Ashley (hopefully)
That should be around 40-44 mill to replace those 7 players
My 7 players for next season:
Nikola Pokrivac…CM,DM,LB-4mill-35k pw
Elano…..5mill-50k pw
Radamel Falcao….CF-10 mill-60k pw
James Collins——CB-8 mill-45k pw
Carlos Martins……AM-6mill 40k pw
Gojko Kacar……….CB,DM-6mill 40 k pw
Daniel Fox………….LB-3.5 mill 30 k pw
42.5 in transfers and 14.5 mill in wages
But what you get is a sweet headache team with only one injury prone player such as James Collins….the rest of them are not injury prone at all and can break the top 6 with ease if we get a good manager.

Good post mate !
Regarding Daniel Fox, i was talking to a guy who is a season ticket holder at Coventry and the talk there is that this lad is excellent and they are sure he will leave for a Premiership club in the summer.
With a bit of luck we are still in the prem and will have a chance of signing him!
Fingers crossed 🙂

I know that is a bit harsh but he was just another of those crop of players we seem to attract that ‘Have emence potential’ !!!
We keep them for 3 or 4 seasons and they don’t ever improve!
On the other hand look at Bassong – young lad and has performed for us from day 1 – now that is potential !! 🙂

Buying a hollow place ??? (Caveat emptor)
If you’re looking for a transalation. it means
Let the buyer beware.
In this instance, the buyers of the idea of Wise as D o Football, being Ashley/ Llambias.

Comment #67Good team is not such a problem, for me a big problem is to have healthy team.. and if we sell Owen, then there will be no real goalscorer.. it is nice to try to buy kind of bargain talented players but they are not guaranty of immediate results..

Comment #68For me the most important thing is to have a intelligent, talkative manager.. JK is just an old man who tries to be a manager.. but is not really at all.. Good manager is essential for me..

Comment #69No need to sell Owen….he’ll walk away for free
on the other hand if we manage to get Falcao which i think its quite possible then not only that we have a 15 goal striker to replace a 10 goal Owen but we also have someone who is 7 years younger,no injury prone record, earning half of Owen wages,20 mill resale value in 2-3 years.
riquelminho
Feb 17, 2009 at 10:35 AM
Comment #70Ok, but why do you think that there is a chance of getting Falcao, another teams are interented in him too and i am pretty sure that he is not going to select usinstead of Arsenal, Manu or someone else.. and his price will be very high..

Feb 17, 2009 at 10:48 AM
Comment #71I was thinking about that aswell.
I think he needs one more team before he joins a top team,2 years in our club without too much presure would do him no harm.
Cos if he joins a top team next season,,he’ll be benched for sure.

Comment #72Look, I will be very happy if we will do some good signings during summer, but I think that first of all we need a good manager for longer time (not change every 6 months) and also that every incoming and outcoming player will be considered well..
