Juande Ramos has insisted today that he could return to the Premier League, even though his first stint in England at Tottenham Hotspur was an unmitigated disaster, and that’s putting it mildly.
Juande Ramos – wants to return to Premier league?
The former Spurs manager left England with his reputation very severely tarnished after he lasted just 12 months at White Hart Lane. And he was given money to spend and brought in some expensive players last summer, and most pundits thought Spurs would be a top side this season.
But when you get just 2 points from your first 8 league games in the Premier League, that isn’t good.
And what happened with Juande, after he was rightly sacked by Spurs before there was no hope for them, he ends up at one of the best clubs in the world, Real Madrid, and exactly how that happened is still a mystery.
Real are 10 points behind their Spanish rivals in the La Liga this season, with little chance of winning the league.
The reports back in England are that he has already turned down an offer to return to the Premier League, with an unnamed side.
Juande told the Daily Mirror today:
“My priority is with Real Madrid, but I would also like to have a clear idea about my future,”
“Just because I left Tottenham, that does not mean I cannot return to the Premier League.”
“That league still holds many challenges for me.”
But any news that Newcastle have sounded out Ramos has to be wide of the mark, and we suspect the club that may have offered him a job is Portsmouth, who are looking for a manager to replace Tony Adams.
As far as we know Newcastle are not looking for a new manager, but are simply waiting for Joe Kinnear to return to fitness, although it will be hard to stop the gossip press from linking the Tyneside club with almost every manager on the planet in the next few weeks.
That’s hardly good reading for Joe Kinnear, when he’s trying to recover from major heart surgery.

“seeing how England were ripped apart by Spain with 2 little guys in Villa and Torres and killer passes from Xavi and iniesta i would be all for a Spanish coach which is what Ashley should have done in the first place.”
…unfortunately, having a Spanish coach doesn’t always mean you have players like Xavi, Iniesta, Torres and Villa in your side. I very much doubt Ramos could communicate with Ameobi without a translator, let alone make him play like Torres!
If we are to hire a foreign manager it’s imperative they speak English – the culture shock and league differences are enough to cope with as it is!

Comment #42There was a time when this club could attract big name managers, only to have the fans hound them out of toon, because they did`nt bring instant success.
Apparently it`s well known in the football world that the job could be a poison chalice.
That plus the present chaos existing at the club does`nt make the job exactly an attractive proposition.
Ramos! probably a decent manager, has had a certain amount of success in Spain, which as Scolari has shown does`nt neccessarily mean a lot in the PL.
And without the horses its hard to compete with the clubs who are willing to spend.
I dont see how any manager coming here will have success without being able to buy and god forbid he should loose the fans.

Comment #43I rate Ramos as a manager in a Spanish league, but I’m not sure about his ability to manage a premier league club. That said, we do have the continental structure in place. It might appeal to him and it might work.
Ed, to say that he is ten points behind the leaders in La Liga in such a derogatory manner is not a good reflection of what he has achieved there. He has taken 24 points of a possible 27 and only lost three to Barcelona, who are top of the league. He’s rated in Spain, that’s how he got the job. Do your homework.

Comment #45A fair point Rodzilla, but I think given time like Benitez, Wenger, Mourinho, Houllier, Jol et al, a foreign coach could do well here.
