There are legitimate reports out there that are suggesting Jose Mourinho would like to return to the Premier League next season.
Jose Mourinho – back to Chelsea next season?
Jose learned his trade with the great Sir Bobby Robson at Barcelona, and Bobby tried to bring him over in 1999, when Bobby was appointed Newcastle United manage, succeeding the woeful Ruud Gullit.
Apparently Jose has told friends he would like to return to the excitement of the Premier League and that he is not a great fan of Italian football.
That’s all well and good, and it would be great to have a personality like Jose back in England, and even Sir Alex Ferguson would welcome the Portuguese manager, the special one, back to England.
And of course his show on Setanta Sports is just great, and it shows what an impact the man still has in England, even though he left Chelsea over a year ago.
The 46-year-old is now on the verge of leading his new club Inter Milan to a fourth successive Serie A title, but reports claim he wants a return to England. And of course they play Manchester United tomorrow in the European Champions League, and that should be some game.
And all this is fine and dandy, until reports suggest he may become the next Newcastle manager. The next Newcastle manager ? Don’t be daft.
Let’s be clear about this – there is no way on earth that Jose Mourinho would take on the Newcastle job, given how the club is positioned right now.
Maybe in the future, if we can get ourselves sorted out, it may be a possibility, but not now.
The reports suggest that the Newcastle manager position will be vacant in the summer, when Joe Kinnear leaves because of ill health.
Well it’s news to us that Joe is leaving, and we honestly think the best short term plan at the club, is to give Joe a couple of seasons to get us back into the top eight in the league.
That has to be the club’s next step, as these last three seasons the team has struggled against relegation, and it’s not too uplifting to be doing that every season.
Mike Ashley may not be the most beloved person on Tyneside right now, but he should be given a chance, now that he says he’s back in the saddle, and wants to drive Newcastle forward.
Newcastle need some stability, which the club have hardly had when they keep switching managers continuously.
Newcastle could do a lot worse than follow the successful Everton example, and stick with one manager, at least for two seasons, and surely that’s not asking too much.
Newcastle fans will want to see actions from Ashley that demonstrate he truly wants to rebuild the club, but a good summer transfer window, and Newcastle may even have a more than decent squad come September.
Newcastle are not a million miles away when all their players are fit, and the club finally gets a big enough squad.
But Jose Mourinho at the helm? Dream on.

Comment #42late as per on a thread but what the heck…
It would be a brave man to pop money on Jose being our manager, but if, and its a massive if, he wants the challenge to turn an underperforming club into one of the top sides in Europe, then he might just fancy it….
He has had the riches of Abramovich and walked the Premiership, twice. He has inherited by far and away the best squad in Italy with Inter and there is a very good possibility he is going to walk that this year…
The challenge of working on a limited budget and drastically improving a club would be a totally new challenge for the bloke…
He has stated he wants to return to the prem….and if (and its still a big if) we have a vacancy in the summer, then why not approach the bloke…He can only say no at worst and at best, he would inject new life into our club….
He just may look at Newcastle at the minute and see a big club with massive potential, dreadfully underperforming….and love himself enough to think he could turn it around….
He would be a legend on Tyneside if he did….bigger than when Shearer or Owen signed
I would love it, if he came to us, love it… 😉
Back on planet Loony…..

Comment #43Morinho has never really struggled, Porto, Chelsea, Milan, not exactly chopped liver.
Could he do it at the Toon, given the financial backing ?
Rather have Quiroz the Portugese manager or Steve Clark @ W/Ham, maybe Van Gaal or a number of Dutch managers.
Joe ? give the guy credit he came when no one wanted the job and did his best, but face it he is not the future of this club, give him a decent payoff and lets go for a manager who can rebuild this club over the next few seasons and hopfully start challenging for trophies.
We should be sorting that out NOW !

Comment #44Er, how about we don’t give Joe a decent pay off? Why would we want to do that? He doesn’t have a long term contract and has refused to sign a new deal. How about we actually cut and run for a change?

Comment #46Lets get real! Jose is no better than Big Sam, in style and the way they see the game being played. We did not want Sam, Roeder, JK and Souness. All were given the boot. What makes Jose a great manager? I would just like to give it to a person who could build the team from top to bottom with there own style of play.
My choses are as follows:
Sven (great thinker of the game)
Dechamps
Steve bruce (deserves his chance at the big time)
le Guan (PSG) Very good manager
ranari Would love a chance back in the prem
Jol never should have been sacked and could bring through youngsters
Steve Mclarn Year in Holland would have taught him enough and could handle pressure of NUFC

Bruce, why because he`s a Geordie ?
McClaren, surely you jest!
Ranieri Too long in the tooth we need a younger man.
Le Guan, failed at his previous try in the Pl but perhaps.
Deshamps, possibly.
Jol, best of the bunch, agree should never have been fired, Spurs loss .

Comment #50McClaren is pushing for the title with FC Twente so he must be doing something right. He can’t have worked alongside taggart for such a long period of time and not learned anything from him.
I think he took on the England job at the wrong time and it was too big for him. He did ok with boro.

Comment #51Who ever we pick the manager MUST have the backing from the board and the fans. I think the best person to interview a manager under this system should be Dennis Wise so we know that they can work together.
Personally I would like to see him try and get the Tinker man on board. Always like Ranari!

Comment #52Whoever said Steve Clarke as next manager, then I would agree with that sentiment. He is an excellent coach, and knows how to implement a defensive unit for a team. He is the man behind Chelsea solid foundation under both Mourinho and Avram! Plus he was a coach for us too, so knows about the club, and he has been around enough to know what system works and what doesn’t!!!

Comment #55to all those who hate on sam and jose because of their style; would you like to watch our exciting keegan-style in the coca-cola league? or win a boring 1-0 in the champions league final?

Sven , no thanks, has been found out.
How has he been found out MC are in Europe!
Bruce, why because he`s a Geordie ?
Because he is acually a quality manager
McClaren, surely you jest!
Better now than before and would have learned alot about technique and yougsters in Holland!
Ranieri Too long in the tooth we need a younger man.
He is only in his 50’s and has a vast amount of experience which class players like playing under.
Le Guan, failed at his previous try in the Pl but perhaps.
Everyone deserves a second chance, plus i thought he only managed rangers
Deshamps, possibly.
Jol, best of the bunch, agree should never have been fired, Spurs loss .

Comment #57Watch Keagan style! Football is a pholosiphy TOROTOON, and like many teams in the leauges throughout the country fans demand a certain style of play.
Even when Chelsea were winning they looked enviously at the way Man U attacked EVERY team. 1-0 and sitting back is not an opion unless you have a fantastic teams that could defend for 90mins. I would rather attack knowing that 3-0 in prem is almost imposible to come back with. The more you score the more you open up the opposition!
KK for me!

Comment #58No one knew of Mourinho before Porto gave him the chance… No one knew of Arsene Wenger before Arsenal gave him a chance and Ferguson wasnt that much of a name when Man Utd brought him over from Aberdeen… My point is that we need to find the NEXT Mourinho and give him the chance, thats our way to the top.

And what makes Bruce a quality manager again?
McClaren, C`mon! He learned a lot about technique and youngsters in Holland, thats it ?
Sven, about to be fired from the Mexican side.
Got nothing against the two French guys and would like to see Jol get the job think he would be what we need at club.
