Derek Llambias – who unveiled plans for new season ticket prices today – has revealed to the Evening Chronicle today that Joe Kinnear has already been on the phone for hours since he was discharged from hospital.
Kinnear – Needs Dummies Guide To Relaxation after Open Heart Surgery 😀
And Derek will be happy to welcome Joe back, but for his own good Derek tells Joe he must rest a little and chill out first. For heaven’s sake the man had just had open heart surgery.
And LLambias also had praise for assistant manager Chris Hughton, who is well respected in the coaching world,. and did really well to rally the troops at half time last Sunday.
Derek said:
“Chris is doing a good job. He’s full of confidence.” “Colin is in there helping us and Joe is still in the background.”
“We’re happy with that situation and that will take us through until the end of the season.”
“Chris is a thorough football man and a highly respected coach.” “The players are full of respect for him and Colin Calderwood.”
However, Llambias has rightly come out boldly, and told Joe Kinnear he must rest and chill out a bit, at least for a few weeks before getting fully involved again. Of course it hasn’t helped Joe with the prepares being full of just who will replace him in the summer, even though neither Joe nor the Newcastle Board have any intention of replacing Joe.
We hardly need a 5th Newcastle manager in the last 21 months, although some Newcastle fans think we do – maybe we should get two managers a season and try that – it will hardly be much better than what we’ve done these last couple of years.
Stability is not replacing your manager every time the team goes on a bad run, but that’s almost exactly what Newcastle have done since Bobby Robson left the club.
Llambias continued:
“Joe was on the phone for about an hour and a half to Chris on Saturday.” “Chris and Colin will talk to him on a regular basis. Unless they cut the phone lines around his house there is no way he won’t communicate.”
“He phoned me at 11pm on Saturday night because he needed some information.” “The next morning he was back on the phone to Chris for two hours.” “He then rang me again. I have had to tell him he is meant to be resting.”
“It’s the way Joe is.” “He is always on the phone, looking at stats and talking to the team.” “He has to learn that for two or three weeks he has to calm down and take it easy.”
“He’s passionate and he cares – he gets what Newcastle is all about.” “I hope he grows on everybody. He’s an honest fella and he loves the club.” “The thing with the manager is we’re backing him. He’s back on board.”
“He’s got to make a good recovery and he’s got to take it easy. He needs to chill out.” “But I will see him on Saturday.”
Joe is like a dedicated Newcastle fan who is suddenly given the job of managing the famous Tyneside club, and one thing he is determined to do, is absolutely everything he possibly can to make Newcastle successful again. And Joe was already a passionate and committed football man – we’d love to have seen his reaction when Mike Ashley said he had the job.
But Joe MUST take some time off, and relax – take wife Bonnie for a couple of weeks in Sunny Spain for instance.
However Joe is Joe, and it’s going to be really hard to stop him working far too hard, when he’s supposed to be in rehabilition and resting. But mayube this is resting in the Joe Kinnear dictionary. 😀

Comment #4still not the man to take us forward in my opinion.
he was a stop gap and i still see him as a stop gap til the end of the season then we can get a new young manager who can get a good pre season and sign his own players.

I could do with that! Beach and drink all day, then maybe a sly visit to the Camp Nou to watch Barcelona.
Perfect.

Comment #6The Board like Joe because they feel within the management structure they have set up he wont rock the boat and they can control things-never a starter looking back with KK.

Comment #7So, basically there is no mention of a reduction for those people that have already paid upfront at an agreed price, or signed the direct debit mandate for the next couple of years. Our reward for doing this to provide cash up fron the club, is to have the club reduce the price to about the same amount for those people that opted not to take out heir offer.
If the club does not reduce the amount of my ticket, after agreeing to sign up for three years, then I am going to cancel mine – what would be the point of carrying it on????
I bl00dy well hope they have just omitted this from their press release – I am NOT A HAPPY BUNNY……time will tell

Comment #9Will – got a nice place a few hours out of Barcelona if you fancy it… http://www.algorfaholiday.com
Aaaahhnnyway. Back on topic:
While I’m going to be worried that Joe will keel over during every match, I think it’s right to let him keep going if he’s up for it. While a lot of people seem convinced that he can’t do more than keep us in the league, I don’t think we have any evidence to suggest that, and he deserves a proper crack at the job.

Comment #11Good point, Elfer. This is the first evidence we’ve seen that Llambias is going to follow up his interviews with actions, starting with timely, clear communication.
Whether you agree with keeping JFK on or not, it’s a good sign that he’s being up-front and decisive here.
