Henrik Larsson Moving To Newcastle United?

The News Of The World has an exclusive today, where they indicate that Newcastle United have made a shock bid to sign former Celtic and Sweden striker Henrik Larsson.

Henrik Larrson – coming to Newcastle?

Of course the main question with any NOTW article on Sunday, is whether it has any truth in it at all.

They are reporting that Newcastle have talked with the 37-year-old about a dramatic return to the Premier League, this season, and the Swede is said to be weighing up the offer from the Tyneside club, after snubbing a bid from Hull City.

Larsson’s deal with Helsingborgs finished at the end of 2008, and he is free to join Newcastle for nothing — outside of the transfer window – as he is a free agent right now.

The Swede of course enjoyed a brief stay at Manchester United two years ago that saw him end up with a league winner’s medal, and he could still knock in a few goals for Newcastle United, that could aid the relegation struggle.

But again, we really have no idea if there’s any truth in this story.

Comments welcome.

he’s another one like Viduka. Couldnt care less about his age, i’d take him in a heartbeat, especially on a free.
Will undoubtedly still know where the net is, will still score goals. A complete ledge.

Sadly, i just dont see there being any truth in it. Would love it if there was though.

We already have Martins,Owen,Viduka,Carroll,Xisco,Smith,Lovenkrands and Ameobi as well as Ranger coming through the ranks. If we could offload a few ie Viduka,Ameobi,Smith,Xisco and maybe Owen then Larsson would be a great signing especially for Ranger and co to learn from. NOTW arnt exactly reliable for stories.

What about the youth policy? Why not get Ian Rush back or John Barnes? It’s demeaning to link NUFC with a grandad but that’s what MA is turning this great club into. It’s a laughing stock.
Hughton is the manager at a time of real crisis. Panic. And the owner allegedly turns down KK who wants to come back to save the club. MA is trying to get us relegated!!! Still, we will be a lot better next season when he spends his 5 mil on new players. Where have all the season ticket holders gone next season???? I cannot understand their disillusionment with this owner.

Look at it as, It would be like having a fully fit Viduka. How many people can honestly say, that if Viduka was fit every week, they still wouldnt think he’d get into our starting line up?

I’m pretty much immediatly dismissing the story because its from the NOTW however. I also think this whole KK “i’ll come back” thing is rubbish too. If it isnt? then fair play to Ashley if im honest. KK cant just walk out, demand cash and then turn round and go “alright, look…i’ll drop this whole 9 million thing, if you sack that other lad, get rid of kinnear, and let me come back”. Like i say, im 90% certain that didnt happen but if it ever did, Ashley would be more than right in telling him where to shove it.

As far Larrson, i’d have no problem with him turning up. People mention Ranger etc-fact is, he wont be getting a game any time soon. Xisco, gets ten minutes here and there. Viduka is crocked, as is Owen-both moving on in the summer. Realistically, we have Oba, Lovenkrands, Carroll and Shola. With the abuse shola gets on here, and his lack of ability we might aswell count him out. A free Henrik Larsson? i know i’d take a bash if the wages were sensible.

I think everyone has to take a step back and relise we are not the club we used to be and that its going to take a few years to get back to the top. ashley is going the right way with the youth setup etc but its going to take a while to come into action.

everyone is so deluded to what we should achieve and how quick, ashley is not ruining the club nor is he stripping the clubs assets because that makes no sense.

We are simply getting a stable basis and working from there and I personally see a bright future but we need to support the owner and the board and relise we have to start from the bottom and work our way back up like everton

I’d take him until the end of the season – maybe even for another season after that.

However there is blatantly no truth in this whatsoever.

    Johno Toon,
I accept it makes no financial sense for MA to want the club relegated but his decisions are so stupid that it appears he is making them just so we get relegated.
    He sacked Keegan
He appoints JK as manager. He plans to give the sick manager a new 2 year contract on his return.
He spends very little money on players. At a time when we are in serious danger of relegation. Spending 15 mil on players would more likely save us from the drop which will cost him scores of millions.
He keeps DW in situ who is hated by NUFC fans.
He appoints CH as interim manager. A person with a very bad management record.
I could go on, but you can hardly say MA has a good record of running the club. The man is a disaster.

You must be a mackem. More patience so that MA can totally destroy the club. You must be a mackem. Come on admit it.

Old Henrik is still a bit of touch of class and is still better than most of our strikers.

    Hi all!

My name is Daniel and im from Sweden, just registered to let you all know that Larsson transfer is just not going to happend. He will stay with Helsingborg til he retire. At the moment he´s talking about the new contract with HIF – why isnt it ready? Becouse he wants to see HIF to show him they are going for gold this year , if not he will most definently stop playing on high level. He didnt even train the fitness training this winter with his team – he was playing floorball instead.
Hope this helps you lads to calm down and realise its just not gonna happend , dont shoot the messenger :).

( Sorry for bad english, its not my native language )

    Take care all !

he is better than ameobi thats for sure…eventhough he is 10 years older than ameobi.

Even when he is ameobi’s age, he score goals for fun.

the question is, would he join us playing at the championship?
