Nicky Butt Doubtful For Crucial Manchester United Game

It looks like Nicky Butt will miss the very crucial game on Wednesday evening against his former club, Manchester United.

Nicky Butt – will probably miss game against Red Devils

Nicky twisted his knee and there is a danger he may have even damaged his medial knee ligaments, but we have to hope the injury is only minor.

Chris Hughton has put Alan Smith and Geremi on standby for Wednesday’s St James’ Park showdown with top club Manchester United, because if we are to survive this season we will need to take something out of that game.

Hughton said today:

“Nicky’s has tweaked his knee,” “We won’t know the extent of it until later today, but, of course, we’re hopeful it’s very minor.”

“In the past, it’s an area we’ve suffered in. Guthrie will still be another two or three weeks away, and Joey Barton’s another three or four weeks away as well.”

“These are the things that test us, and what we have is Geremi, who came in and did well in the period of time he was on, and Alan Smith, who was on the bench.”

“There are also other players who can move into different formations.”

Damien Duff missed the Bolton game with a calf problem, and he is only rated 50-50 for Wednesday.

But make no mistake that every game Newcastle play now, we have to do out best to get all 3 points.

Relegation this season will be a complete disaster, because we’ll need to clear the ranks of lots of players we will just not be able to afford in the Championship.

To have the 17th richest football club in the world go down is almost unthinkable, and it will cause even more debate about the volcano that erupted last September between Kevin Keegan and the Newcastle Board.

Any more results like yesterday and we’re tempting fate too much,  and we have to be realistic and start saving ourselves on the field, starting on Wednesday.

it will give us an opportunity to see what Smith has to offer. he’s more of an unkown quantity than Geremi is. it’s a game we have little chance of winning. and by little it means we DO have a chance, no matter how small. football is a funny game.

so give Smith a game as DM, he might prove he’s better than Geremi and if he’s willing to fight for the cause, he could be invaluable. you could see yesterday how he was peeved he didnt come on when Butt was taken off, so he may just help provide the spark Jonas has been trying valiantly by himself to keep alive.

What a fabulous choice we have. Geremi or Smith. Two players who are woefull and have been for a long time.

I would be happier playing a couple out of the reserves, knowing they will play their hearts out for the cause, unlike half the team yesterday!! Wednesday is going to be about spirit, of getting into ManUre for a full 90 minutes; Smith will get himself sent of within the first 30.

We have some great players trying to come through our system, give a couple the break they need. It will give them an incredible boost, we have nothing to lose anyway and could gain a hell of a lot.

I thought in the second half against everton we showed a lot of spirit.dont know what happened to it yesterday.i could not understand the substitutions either for houghton to turn round and say he was happy with the performance proves that we need someone else in charge.geremie will be of no use on wednesday as he is far too slow . give lua lua a chance ,we have nothing to lose as no one expects to get anything from the game. im just tired of seeing players go through the motions

    “Good he’s a liability!!!”

So who would you prefer to Butt in the holding midfield role Darling? Geremi, Cacapa, or Smith?

    YAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

He was shocking on Sunday and only plays well 1 game in 8 and is a real liability and I cant believe he recieved a new contract just becauce he made 19 appearances. Another excellent piece of work by the previous regime.

But our options are now non-existant at the minute due to injuries and Nolans moment of madness. Really dreading Wednesday.

Does it really matter what team we put out on wednesday? NO.

Just forfeit the game and use it as an extra rehabilitation session for our crocks.
