Bassong Should Be Getting France Call-Up Shortly

Most Newcastle fans agree this season that Frenchman , 22-year-old Parisien Sebastien Bassong, a £500K signing from Metz, has proved to be Newcastle’s best player in a season of gloom and doom on Tyneside.

Sebastien Bassong – great play for Newcastle this season

And it seems that his central defense partner, Fabricio Coloccini, is one of  the youngster’s greatest fans, as he says Seb has been Newcastle’s best player recently.

Coloccini said:

“Seb has been our best player. I don’t know about the whole season, but in our last 10 or 12 games he has been very, very good.”

“I had not heard of him before he came here. When I look at how well he has done, it is a big surprise.” “Today, I asked him if he has played for France.”

“He said no, but I think in the next two or three months he will.” “Maybe I will play against him in the World Cup next year. I hope so, because he is a great player and a good person.”

Of course before Seb becomes a full French International, he needs to be selected for the squad, and Raymond Domenech surely is getting good reports of the Newcastle player, after he has starred for Newcastle ever since he came in for the Chelsea game, in which he had the proverbial stormer.

Coloccini’s own hopes of starring in South Africa were dented a little when he was dropped from Argentina’s squad for last month’s friendly against France, but he’s starting to play consistently well again for Newcastle, after his one terrible game at home to Liverpool.

The 27-year-old  Argentine had been surprised by Newcastle’s struggles this season, haven’t we all, and he is hoping the club can survive relegation, which means he will still be at Newcastle next season, and he can still make the Argentine squad for South Africa next summer.

Fabricio added:

“I hope this season is unusual. Next year, the team should do better, as we have lots of good players here.”

I’m sure there are thousands and thousands of Newcastle fans who hope that if we survive relegation this season, then next season will not be our 4th season in a row of fighting relegation.

Newcastle United and their fans deserve a lot better than that.

if we had that team fit all season and playing as well as they should…..comfortably top half. especially when you see the likes of fulham and west ham 7/8th

Not really. If we won the majority of our next games we could still finish comfortable, that’s the objective!!:D

Not a bad team? Its not that good either, when u have to play Ryan Taylor as the right midfielder. I bet Nobby would still play better…

The goalie is also weak, now we see why Harper was always a sub, he’s not at all as good as some geordies think.

Bring in Kameni in the summer.

Bassong is better than Abidal, Gallas and Boumsong, current playerswho get into the Frnce team. But Domenech couldn’t recognise talent even if it jumped up at popped him in the face.

Partly because Domenech picks and doesn’t pick players based on astrology!

Gallas is an exception to his rule. Cant understand why though, he is half te player he was 3 years ago.
