Oba Martins Wants To Stay At Newcastle

Oba Martins has come out today and said he is willing to stay at Newcastle United, as long as the club can avoid relegation this season.

Oba Martins – happy at Newcastle – although he doesn’t look it here

The News Of The World is reporting that Oba Martins was not too happy when Newcastle didn’t go ahead with the new deal they were working on for Oba at the begining of the season.  Once Kevin Keegan left the club, they pulled the plug on those negotiations.

The Nigerian striker was said to be unhappy that the planned new deal wasn’t done last year, but it seems that Oba, who is just loved by the Newcastle fans, is not about to leave the club.

Apparently Oba is said to be on around £75K a week, and the proverbial un-named source close to the player told the NOTW:

“Oba doesn’t want to go. He’s happy at Newcastle — but he doesn’t want to play in the Championship.”

With Oba fit again, and looking goal hungry, this lad can help us stay in the Premier League this season, but the run-in will not be easy, and unless the team can reverse its form of the last 10 games, we’ll not be able to survive.

We need several of our fit players to stand up to the plate, in the remaining 10 games of the season, as most of them did at WBA.

But they will need to that consistently if the club is to survive the nightmare of relegation.

Comments welcome.

Next season we should have a massive clearout with Cacapa, Edgar, Geremi, Owen (if he wants to leave) Viduka, Ameobi, Butt, Smith and Maybe Duff. I would definatly keep Lovenkrands, so our team would look like this

    Duff or ?????

We could proberly get 9mill at the most + 6mill from Given and 6mill from Nzogbia thats 20mill + 10-15mill from Ashley (Hopefully)

    35mill for 7 players?

Batty and Toon_Sydney are right – if we can keep the likes of Martins and Owen fit, we’ll get goals. Although that will still depend upon us maintaining the performance level we put in against the Mancs. We currently appear to set our standards at the same level as we expect our opponents to play at, then drop it slightly…

We also need to get our midfield sorted, although Barton and Guthrie are out, Butt is knackered and I’m afraid that even when not banned, Nolan simply doesn’t seem to offer much from what I’ve seen of him.

Midfield is definitely our main problem right now.

One big bonus for us though would be to get Viduka fit and playing. He’s an excellent foil for Owen and Martins and creates so many goals. Pity he’s practically disabled these days.

…And Toon_Factor’s right too about the players we need to ship out. Maybe keep the likes of Butt and Duff for the subs bench.

Oba is loyal to his 80K a week. Nobody else will pay that. Thats why he’ll stay…as long as we don’t get relegated. So he’ll be off then!!! Vastly overrated in any case. A fast player who has a wayward shot and cannot trap cement. Goals to games ratio is poor. A rubber man who falls to the floor like Heskey under contact. Cannot hold the ball up. Like I said he is overrated.

Do we get valu for money from our overrated stars? 5th highest wage bill, but where are we in the league. Its a bit late to call for players to stand up and be counted. Whats been going on for the last three seasons? They have been standing up but thay are just too old and now not very good.

jimiley, who other strikers would play for us then? not many players can offer what martins does. he is dedicated to the club and has the most creativity in the team atm along with jonas.

We need 10 points to survive. I am very cofident.

Winnablr games: Fulham, Boro, Pompey all at home. Spurs and Hull all away.

I dont think we have a chance against Stoke.

As for the article – didn’t expect anything different.

We do, he is our best striker and most effective.

When Owen doesn’t score he adds nothing. When Martis doesn’t score he sretches defences and therfore creates space and chances for others.

saying martin overrated is extremely harsh.

look at all our strikers:owen,viduka,caroll,smith..what we had in common? they all can’t beat the skills of martin.

he is our effective striker, he can create chances and even score from NOTHING. Michael Owen even can’t do that!

this guy can easily join the top 4 club and did well.

“…Goals to games ratio is poor. ”

He scores a goal every 2 and three quarter games jimiley. That isn’t so bad, even for a striker.
