There is news this morning that Real Madrid are more than interested in our new signing from Ljubljana, Slovenia, 16 year-old central attacking midfield star, Haris Vuckic.
Haris Vuckic – has shown outstanding form at Newcastle
But exactly where this news story has originated from is not known, so we’re not sure how much truth there is in the story.
Haris is the 16 year old attacking midfielder we signed in January from NK Domžale, where he had already made 5 appearances for their first team squad, and the lad doesn’t turn 17 until September.
The word on the youngster is that he’s been outstanding since arriving at the Tynsdie club, and he is expected to be part of the first team squad as early as next season, and when Newcastle signed him the local club called a news conference, he was so highly thought of in Slovenia.
Vuckic made his first appearance for the Newcastle’s Reserve team on 16th February, when he came off the bench to score the winning goal against Blackburn Rovers Reserves. And what a goal it was as he brilliantly curled a left foot shot into the corner of the net – quite a debut for the youngster.
And Harris scored his first goal for the Newcastle U-18 side in his debut for the side in their 4-2 away win at Derby on 21st February.
There’s little doubt this lad,who already stands 6’2″ tall, is destined to be an excellent player, if he keeps up the talent he has already shown on Tyneside, and since we are rumored to have paid just £50K for the lad, he’s more than a bargain already.
Of course Arsenal are also after one of older youngsters (if that makes sense) in that they are after Sebastien Bassong, and seem willing to offer £10M for the 22 year-old Frenchman, and that’s 20 times what Newcastle paid FC Metz for him only last August. But we’d be very surprised if Bassong goes anywhere in the summer, and expect the club to give him a bumper contract, which he deserves.
So it looks like the Newcastle club are doing almost everything right at the Youth level, and we have more than a good number of world class youngsters already at the club.
If this strategy continues to be as successful as it looks, we’ll have to get used to big club coming after our young guns.
Now if only we can stay in the Premier League this season.
