Owen Starts For Newcastle at Hull

hull_city_badgenufc-crest3

There’s bit of a surprise in Newcastle’s team selection as captain Michael Owen, after 10 days back in training, returns to the side, and Nicky Butt also returns for this afternoon’s relegation six-pointer at the KC Stadium against Hull City.

Ryan Taylor and Peter Lovenkrands are the two men who have to make way with Owen and Oba Martins paired up front in attack for only the fifth time in the league this season.

Since they are Newcastle’s top scorers there’s some goals in the team, but we have to hope that Michael isn’t too rusty after being out of the side sincew late January.

The defense of Steve Harper, Steven Taylor, Jose Enrique, Fabricio Coloccin and Sebastien Bassong remains the same, as expected, and Alan Smith, Jonas Gutierrez and Geremi keep their place in midfield.

All three had excellent games last time out and deserve to keep their places. And Damien Duff is surprisingly included on the subs bench – which looks very strong indeed.

TEAMS:

Hull City: Matt Duke, Sam Ricketts, Michael Turner, Kamil Zayate, Bernard Mendy, Anthony Gardner, Ian Ashbee, Geovanni, Kevin Kilbane, Craig Fagan Daniel Couin
Subs: Boaz Myhill, Andy Dawson, Nick Barmby, Bryan Hughes, Richard Garcia, Peter Halmosi, Manucho

Newcastle: Steve Harper, Steven Taylor, Jose Enrique, Fabricio Coloccini, Sebastien Bassong, Nicky Butt, Alan Smith, Jonas Gutierrez, Ryan Taylor, Oba Martins, Michael Owen (c)
Subs: Fraser Forster, Damien Duff, Ryan Taylor, Shola Ameobi, Peter Lovenkrands, David Edgar, Andy Carroll

We’ll be back after the game, and hopefully Newcastle will have wrapped up all 3 points.

Howay The Lads!!

    No Lovencrands?

I can only assume we’re keeping him off for Owen – Lovencrands speed making him a better impact player…

Not a bad team but would prefer Geremi over Butt but oh well, you can expect much from our coaching staff.

Looks to me like Chris is having a gamble, ok if it comes off, but he will be slated if it don’t.

Good to see Owen playing. I personally would have played Lovenkrands on the wing instead of Ryan Taylor but had a feeling that Taylor would be playing after Hughton had a go at him mid week. He does offer a defensive option down that right side.

The onus for me is hugely on Jonas to create for Owen and Martins. Lovenkrands is a great option to bring on but hopefully we won’t need him.

    Come on!!

WTF is going on with our managerial staff. Lovenkrands is the only player in recent games who was able to score and be dangerous. He and Oba also showed to be a lethal strikers duo (ask Vidic and Rio). But no, Owen is back and he has got to play, no matter what. He is match fit cause he trained one week and a half. RIDICULOUS

Butt also in the team, he is one of the reasons we are in this sh*t. He can’t pass a ball, gives away fouls every time he is in the neighbourhood of the ball.

Ryan Taylor is not worth to keep his place. What has he done more than Loven to earn his spot? NOTHING AT ALL, except giving away a point versus Manure. Good at set pieces? On which basis is that statement made? Because he made one against us. His set pieces are awful, point!

I hope we win off course, but the managers we have are the worst I’ve ever seen.

Whoever it was up there, S.Taylors not suspended because the commentater on the Liverpool game said when someone got a yellow card, that past a certain date, after 5 yellow cards you dont get a suspension just a disciplinry** letter
