Owen Dropped, R.Taylor, Nolan, Duff, Lovenkrands Start

nufc-crest4 arsenal-fc-crest1

Chris Hughton has made several changes from the team that so disappointed last week at Hull City.

Dropped is captain Michael Owen, as some newspapers had suggested early this morning, and returning to the side in midfield are Kevin Nolan, Damien Duff, Ryan Taylor and Peter Lovenkrands.

Kevin Nolan returns from suspension, and it’s good to see Peter Lovenkrands back as he regains his place, probably on the right wing.  Damien Duff and Ryan Taylor also come back into the midfield.

Alan Smith and Jonas Guteirrez are also left out of the side, along with Geremi.

The back four is unchanged, and the midfield will likely consist of five across the middle of Ryan Taylor, Butt, Kevin Nolan, Damien Duff, Peter Lovenkrands, with Oba Martins up front.

If the lads play 4-4-2 then it’s back to Martins and Lovenkrands up front, who looked great against the Red Devils, and Duff and R. Taylor will be the two wingers.

It’s also good to see Habib Beye back, and he is named among the substitutes for the first time since injuring ankle ligaments at Wigan on Boxing Day.

But four players, Owen, Geremi, Smith and Gutierrez are dropped from the side that so disappointed at Hull City last week.

With Portsmouth winning today, it will take 3 points if  Newcastle are to escape the bottom three.

Howay The Lads!!

TEAMS:

Newcastle United:

Good line-up, Geremi and Smith not playing which is good news but why rush Duff in when Gutierrez is still fit? Lovekrands and Martins should be able to penetrate the opponent’s defenders

Ryan Taylor could be vital today. Let’s see Martins and S. Taylor get on the end of some corners.

As for the negative people on here, I’m not optimistic either, but Jonas and Owen weren’t good against Hull, let’s see them fight for their place again. McLoven and Martins certainly warrant a starting berth over Owen atm.

Here I wouldn’t say it’s a terrible lineup at all Ryan!

Owen was poor against Hull, Lovencrands should’ve played and Geremi and Smith aren’t playing! It’s fairly clear we’re gunna sit in and then launch Oba and McLoven on the break – probably he best way to score for us!

Nolan has come back in and I’m imagining will be playing slightly more advanced than Butt.

Guttierrez MUST be injured ’cause he’s too valuable to leave out of the squad altogether.

I personally think dropping owen was the right decision, but droppong Gutierrez now thats a big mistake especially how he usually does better at home that away

I find it weird how NUFC manager always seem to have a different idea of an ideal 11 to 99 percent of the fans.

Definitely wouldn’t have dropped Spidey. Personally would’ve put him on the right wing – but I’m not the manager.

    ?!?!?!?!?!!?!
I rest my case about Hughton poor Keegan choice. Dont care when ppl say “good number 2” he should be able to remember or at least copy the managers decisions.
Owen dropped fair enuff as i’ve said he has no committment and is our captain which sends out the wrong signals to the rest of the team. Jonas mus be injured if he isnt making the squad. Why does Ameobi!!!! i f$£”$£”$£”£$ cant believe Calderwood and Hughton that actually are looking fwd to the championship. Why is Kinnear and co the future Ashley please explain.

Can’t understand why Ryan Taylor has been picked and Jonas is on the Bench. taylor has been mediocre at best since we bought him, he has no pace and does not have the attacking ability of Jonas.

Joanas has also been one of the best players we’ve had at tracking back so why Taylor is playing I have no idea.

In his defence Taylor is very much over due a good game but common sense dictates that players should be picked on form and not expectations therefoe he should be on the bench and Jonas should be playing.

We need a manager this week not next season otherwise we’ll be down.

I’ll be honest – I like the team today. Jonas will serve as a very effective sub, but let’s be honest – he’s been pretty mediocre lately. Sure he can run down the flanks, but from there he meanders around and gives away possession. It’s totally predictable.
