Newcastle Still Await Scan Results On Taylor And Bassong

Newcastle United are still waiting for a prognosis on injured defenders Bassong and Taylor, but it would be surprising if either can make the home game against Chelsea on April 4th.

Sebastien Bassong – has hip injury

Taylor and Sebastién Bassong were injured and had to leave the field during Saturday’s 3-1 home defeat to Arsenal.

The news is that Newcastle are still waiting to hear the results of scans conducted on both players, but it’s rather unlikely either will feature on April 4th against the Pensioners, which is another injury blow for the club.

Bassong has a hip injury and Steven Taylor’s injury could be worse, because he has sustained ankle ligament damage, and Michael Owen was out over six weeks with a similar injury he picked up at Manchester City.

Coach Chris Hughton was asked about the injuries to Bassong and Taylor last night and he said:

“They’re still being assessed, it’s too early to say,”

There will be pressure to get points against Chelsea, to try to pull away from the relegation zone, but the likelihood of that happening, given our current form, has to be slim at best.

Yes bennytoon, Citeh also asked about Diego Forlan and were quoted £30m.

So, if the come for Bass and if Shay’s owt to go by, that’ll be £2m for him!

As we know by the £5-8m we [have not yet] got for a world-class Shay, there’s no flies on our shrewd operators eh!!

RyanToon – shut it with your “100%” and “fact”. It’s opinion. Not saying you’re wrong, but I’m pretty sure none of the other clubs will know whether they are going for him yet, and Bassong won’t know until the day he signs either for us or one of them.

Sorry for the rant, but it’s a pet-hate of mine.

We are in serious trouble if they are both long-term injuries, though. Taylor still does some stupid stuff (lack of a strong manager showing there) but he’s been so important to us. And Bassong, well – arguably our best player over the season.

On the bright-side, I thought we instantly got back our spark when Beye came back. So I think move Beye into the middle and put Geremi in at RB for now. While I rate Edgar as a sub, he’s not what you need during a relegation fight.

    Agree with Whumpie here!

    I HATE when people say:

Bassong will be off this summer, I am 100% certain

    or

If we had started Løvenkrands we would have won that game, FACT

    ——-

No it’s NOT facts. The definition of a fact is that it is objectively and invariably true. You couldn’t POSSIBLY know that we would have won if x y or z had happened. You also don’t know with 100% certainty that Bassong is leaving us in the summer. Noone knows that, and certainly not with 100% guarantee. It IS a blog of opinions, RyanToon, so state your opinion, don’t act like your opinion is fact. You can say:

“I think Bassong will leave us this summer and a, b, c are my reasons for thinking so”. It’s pretentious when things get presented as though they are gospel when it’s subjective opinion.

    Rant over.

bennytoon – You hear and say a lot of things, most of them wrong.

Hope these two, especially Bassong aren’t out for more than 2-3 weeks, because we need them back for the Stoke game, we can just write off the Chelsea game.
