Ryan Taylor has said today he is ready to answer Newcastle’s defensive call and play at right back, if he is selected there against Chelsea.
Ryan Taylor – wants to play at right back long term
Ryan will have a chance to show his worth at Newcastle since both Sebastien Bassong and Steven Taylor are likely to miss the Chelsea game, and Ryan could make his first start in that position for his new club , where in fact he started his career at Tranmere Rovers.
Caretaker manager Chris Hughton will have to decide who his back four will be fairly quickly, so hopefully they can get a chance to practice together in the run-up to the vital Chelsea game. We assume Habib Beye will move to center-back, in Bassong’s absence.
The versatile 24-year-old, who was signed from Wigan Athletic in January’s transfer window, seems to see his football future in that position long term.
Taylor told the Shields Gazette today:
“Right-back’s where I want to fulfill my ambitions,” “That’s where I want to play and progress, and be the player I want to be.”
“I can’t ask for any more than to be at a club like this, and hopefully I can do that.” “It starts from now.”
“I’ve got to work hard in training, and take my chance come Saturday afternoon.”
Chris Hughton does have a number of choices, because he could also play young David Edgar, or the experienced Geremi at right back.
At least Chris seems to have some decent options, but there’s no doubt Newcastle will miss both Steven and Sebastien against Chelsea, because both have been playing very well at the back for Newcastle in recent games. 🙁
We really need a win against Chelsea, however we can get that result.
Comments welcome.

Comment #122As i said yesterday and for the past few months, a new manager in now please, JK when/ if(?) he returns is not good enough to get us back into the PL.
Everyone moans about Hughton etc… now, has he become the scapegoat?! Most were agreeing including you ed that it’d be best to have them run the show until JK had come back, consistencey and all that crap.
well again mighty toon (best in the world) fans you got what you wished for hey? Okay lads now it’s time to start plotting the further demise of our beloved club.
Get the bed sheets out, lets have a little protest about some bollocks the Sun makes up, keep booing the players everytime the touch the ball, and leave the ground early in disgust!!!
sick to death of the pathetic fan base we have, yes big numbers, but hardly big hearts or support.
MA, the coaching staff and luck are all to blame this season yeah, oh you missed one THE FANS!

Comment #124I am a logistical pattern strategist for a multi-million pound london banking firm. My job is to study patterns in the market and to implement strategies based on studies regarding fiscal fluctuations that will ensure the maximisation of potential growth. I am also a die-hard NUFC supporter – born and bred – and based on a number of key factors; including the revival under KK at the end of last season, the revival under Roeder two seasons previously and the appearance/results ratios of each of the players … can categorically say that THIS is the team and formation with which we will be most likely to ensure we; a) do not loose against chelsea, b) finish outside of the relegation zone….
Harper/
Beye/Coloccini/Cacapa/Enrique
Geremi/Butt/Duff
Owen/
Martins/Ameobi
The accumulative odds on us being a goal down by half time are – 9/1 – (this 3.89 span algorithm took me an hour to work out by the way.)
If we are a goal down we make a substitution at 55mins…. not 60 as is so often the case… statistically very few teams score between 55 and 60mins presumably due to the apprehension of a change in momentum after 1 hour of play.
IF we are a goal down on 55mins… we substitute ameobi for Lovenkrands, owen pushes forward and we play with 4 across the middle with lovenkrands on the right side of midfield.
We play through the middle, we forget crosses from wide as – (we now officially have 2 goals this season from wingers crossing from wide positions).
We do not let the following kick a ball for the remainder of the season: Ryan Taylor, Alan Smith, Gutierrez… they are all the footballing equivalent of false prophets and with ANY OF THEM in side we have failed to win in 81% of attempts.
I will finish with the most unpalatable fact of all… which will have most of you moaning like whinnies… Bassong should not play again this season… if we survive, he can develop as our star man but statistically he is our worst performer in the squad.

Comment #125Hi geordies, sorry to pop in as a Spurs fan – btw, BennyToon is a lame WUM whom everyone should just ignore – but I’d just like to say that Mike Ashley has categorically stated in the past that he hates Spurs and is not a Spurs fan (http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2008/jul/10/ashley.binladen). He is a Chelsea supporter and I believe a Chelsea season ticket holder. Just wanted to get that in since it seems so many Toon fans think that he supports us and I don’t want his fat gob associated with us in any shape or form. However, Paul Kemsley is a Spurs fan while Hughton and JFK are obviously sort of ours (no wonder you hate us LOL!)
Also, while our chairman Levy made a correct choice in appointing Harry while it seems that JFK wasn’t as good a decision, it was ultimately the 45 million in funds in the January window that saved us (touch wood). Most Spurs fans were still extremely concerned about relegation all through January. While Harry has done well, the main factor hasn’t been his management so much as the right transfer signings. Ashley’s profit after the window is just despicable, I can’t believe he’s a businessman – the financial loss after relegation is so much worse than paying for new signings. I also can’t believe Given was let go for so little to Man City, he’s just about world class and Man City could’ve been milked for so much more.
Anyways, good luck with your relegation battle, I like going to St James Park. I also can’t stand Sunderland fans, I know plenty of them who think Anton Ferdinand is better than Ledley King (who even with one knee happens to be 10x the player). Newcastle seems to have a bit of a jinx over us – we’re unbeaten at home under Harry except for a dodgy Everton goal but you’ll probably end up taking 3 points anyways, late Martins strike since he always scores against us.

Comment #126Ryan Taylor should do a good job at right back, this gave lovenkrands or jonas to play on right winger…..
Play beye and colocini centre back, well thats the best partnership we got since we got injuries to bassong and taylor. put Edgar as backup

Comment #128johno toon u are the one that sounds like a retard wy dont u just pay your wages right in ashleys bank. Simple fact is that its good to get youth in but if the first team is full has been players it needs freshening. Up with new players not supperstars just good players not sell given millner etc. If we go down which looks likely we will start selling the good young talent any way. Any way go back to kissing ashleys arse u idiot

Comment #129Is it true that it was Alan Oliver who was banned from St James’s the other day, for co-authoring a false story on Joe Kinnears health problems?

Comment #137Absolutely Stardust, and yeah sorry maybe my comment was a little harsh. I agree the post was interesting, but he’s making a LOT of assumptions on players’ performances (Bassong, Gutierrez) seemingly by results of games. These results would’ve all been affected by other factors I.E. errors made by other players, injuries/suspensions etc…
I’d just like to see where Boater got his stats from as Gutierrez and Bassong are two of my highest rated players, I don’t rate Ameobi or Geremi and I think Cacapa and Duff are past their sell-by dates. In short his line-up wasn’t far off my worst first team 11. But hey, I’m not a number-cruncher and have based my opinions solely on watching players play.
…either way we’ll never get to see Boater’s plan put to test. Although, we have got Hughton in charge 😉
