Bookmaker Expects Newcastle To Be Relegated

Bookmakers don’t get too many things wrong, otherwise they would not stay in business.

william-hill

And the bad news this morning for Newcastle fans is that bookmakers seem to have written off the chances of Newcastle staying in the Premier League.

William Hill Betting are now offering conservative odds of 1-200 on any one of the three North East teams – Newcastle, Sunderland and Middlesbrough being among the group that go down. Of course we would expect that Middlesbrough could well be the one club to get relegated but the Newcastle plight is so dire, it’s getting hard to see how we can pick up the requisite points to stay up.

Hills are also quoting 22-1 on all three clubs dropping into the Championship for next season – and the odds of all three staying up are 11-2.

But the worse stats are that Newcastlke are 3rd favorites, at 9-1, to finish rock bottom of the Premier League, and are also third favorites to finish in the bottom three, with those odds even.

Here are the odds for Premier teams to finish bottom of the league:

West Brom 4/11
Middlesbrough 9/2
Newcastle 9/1
Stoke 12/1
Hull 25/1
Portsmouth 33/1
Blackburn 40/1
Sunderland 40/1
Bolton 100/1

And here are the odds to finish in the bottom three and be relegated:

West Brom 1/20
Middlesbrough 4/7
Newcastle EVS
Stoke 2/1
Hull 11/4
Blackburn 9/2
Sunderland 11/2
Portsmouth 11/2
Bolton 12/1
West Ham 100/1
Fulham 125/1
Man City 125/1
Wigan 125/1
Tottenham 125/1

You can check other odds – perhaps more positive ones like who will win the Premier League (Manchester United favorites at 4-11 and Liverpool next at 5-2)   here.

Bookmakers use logic and rational expectations to work out their odds.

These have never been present surrounding the toon in recent times.

dont read too much into the odds – 2 weeks ago stoke were odds on. 6 weeks ago blackburn were 1/2! it changes every week when it comes to relegation. they have to shorten the odds to protect themselves every week. However, having said this i do think we will go down.

If you want to be really anal about it, they don’t actually expect us to go down. If they did they would put it at slightly worse odds like 5/4 to build in a profit margin.

Also, can we show this to the pessimist brigade on here who keep saying we’re a certainty to go down? 50/50 isn’t a certainty, and now it’s official.

    Still, t’ain’t good.

500 quid on newcastle to get relegated then. That will cover my spending money for my honeymoon.

Where are you going on honeymoon bennytoon? Pennywell? Perhaps a champagne floodlight dinner at the stadium of shite. Bookies do not always get it right. My money now for a good bet is to find the odds for us staying up!

If we beat Stoke we have a chance, otherwise we’re probably doomed.

Benny – Most likely, you’re playing well at the minute. But if we do beat Stoke its the 3 homes games and an out of form Villa away I’ll be looking to get points from.

Wiser_than_wise, you really make yourself sound like a moron when you make that kind of statement. Adding the word FACT in block capitals to the end of the sentance doesn’t make your opinion fact. Idiot.

As for relegation prospects, I don’t think I’ve been less optimistic about our finishing position since Ardiles was in charge.

Bennytoon, no matter how bad we do, we can always manage a beating for Spurs, home or away. When did you last beat us in the league?

I know you beat us in some tin pot cup or other this year. How’s that cup going by the way?

    Oh, sorry…

davies- have a look at the history of games between the clubs . Spurs have won the majority so dont let a 4 game winning streak get in the way of the facts.

You would love to win that tin pot trophy as we did last year. Hasve you ever seen newcastle win one?

Dont be sorry. I went to wembley and had a great day out watching us out play the best team in the world. Did you enjoy your win at hull the other weekend?

    Oh sorry…

bennytoon; your a f*cking mug son, think your the big man giving it all this coz your poxxy yids are on a bit of good form for once… yeah we may be in a bad position right now, but we’ll pull through and next season show your over spending pompus yiddy c#nts that you shouldnt have written us off this season…

Believe lads, pessimism isnt gonna help anybody, optimism is the start of us believing we can stay up!!

It’s about 50 odd wins each, so you’re exaggerating somewhat when you say ‘majority’ benny.

I wouldn’t worry too much about these odds. they’re this short because of our last 3 results, not performances and down to the fact we play Chelsea next – the fact that we’re managerless may also come into play mind. Hills have us favourites NOW. If we beat Chelsea we no longer will be. Admittedly this is a long shot but these odds will change each week. I just hope they get longer!

…and go on Bennytoon, stick a monkey on it if you have the b@lls. If I was THAT certain, I would.
