The two week International break will give an opportunity for some of the Newcastle players to build up their fitness and sharpness, ready for the Chelsea game.
Danny Guthrie – out since January – but back for Chelsea
Players like Danny Guthrie, Kevin Nolan and Michael Owen will have the chance of two solid weeks, in training before Chelsea arrive on Tyneside for our next home game, and 8th last of the season.
But we’re not sure we can get anything more out of Chelsea, than we got out of Manchester United or Arsenal, and are none too hopeful. 🙁
We’d love to be proved wrong on that, and a win would be just terrific, and we’ll be dancing in the streets, and that result could also really inspire the players to go on and save the season by staying in the Premier League. At this time most Newcastle fans would settle for that gladly, and we sure would.
It also looks like Newcastle will have 22 year-old Spanish striker Xisco back, and Claudio Cacapa is also set to return to the squad.
So Chris will have almost a full squad to choose from with only Barton, Viduka and Gonzalez the only players still unfit long term.
Whether Mark Viduka, who has started just one game for Newcastle this season, and has only 22 starts in nearly two seasons on Tyneside – will ever play again for Newcastle again, is a good question.
Both Steven Taylor and Seb Bassong are injured too, yet the good news on Steven today is that he’s only got bruising of his ankle, and will only miss out on the Chelsea game and be back for the Stoke City game, which will be Newcastle’s biggest of the season – so far.
No new news yet on Bassong’s rib injury, but we are hoping Seb may make the Chelsea game, remembering that he played magnificently at Stamford Bridge last year, in our 0-0 draw.
This young lad has become quite a player, in just seven months at Newcastle.
