Danny Guthrie Fit – Has Viduka Played Last Game For Magpies?

The two week International break will give an opportunity for some of the Newcastle players to build up their fitness and sharpness, ready for the Chelsea game.

Danny Guthrie – out since January – but back for Chelsea

Players like Danny Guthrie, Kevin Nolan and Michael Owen will have the chance of two solid weeks, in training before Chelsea arrive on Tyneside for our next home game, and 8th last of the season.

But we’re not sure we can get anything more out of Chelsea, than we got out of Manchester United or Arsenal, and are none too hopeful. 🙁

We’d love to be proved wrong on that, and a win would be just terrific, and we’ll be dancing in the streets, and that result could also really inspire the players to go on and save the season by staying in the Premier League.  At this time most Newcastle fans would settle for that gladly, and we sure would.

It also looks like Newcastle will have 22 year-old Spanish striker Xisco back, and Claudio Cacapa is also set to return to the squad.

So Chris will have almost a full squad to choose from with only Barton, Viduka and Gonzalez the only players still unfit long term.

Whether Mark Viduka, who has started just one game for Newcastle this season, and has only 22 starts in nearly two seasons on Tyneside – will ever play again for Newcastle again, is a good question.

Both Steven Taylor and Seb Bassong are injured too, yet the good news on Steven today is that he’s only got bruising of his ankle, and will only miss out on the Chelsea game and be back for the Stoke City game, which will be Newcastle’s biggest of the season – so far.

No new news yet on Bassong’s rib injury, but we are hoping Seb may make the Chelsea game, remembering that he played magnificently at Stamford Bridge last year, in our 0-0 draw.

This young lad has become quite a player, in just seven months at Newcastle.

i felt after the bolton defeat that even if are going to stay in the premeir league, it is only going to be by pure luck.i am not blaming the players here. i can see most of our players having better games if they play for other clubs.
i am blaming the manager and his managing team because the way the team played provided no hope.then came the manchester game and i thought wow the manager knows how to make the team play. Then i was praying that the manager will make them play against hull in a similar manner. Then they proved again that they r blind. they dont even have the common sense to attack hull city. then came arsenal and we played well again. Now i think i have to say two things we could have got 6 points against bolton and hull. but we got only 1.one could see these 2 teams breaking into pieces if we had attacked them. and we have good players to attack but manager has to defend one alarming thing to see agianst arsenal was that after we conceded a goal there was only one team in the game even though we scored a goal. we were the team who had to attack and ther was nothing heads dropped and we stopped playing. it shows there is some big problem at the club

i would love to see us play this team against chelsea:
    beye s.taylor bassong enrique
    duff guthrie nolan guttierez
    martins lovenkrands

i think coclo needs some time on the bench to think, and i do think xisco should get a chance maybe the last 20 mins or so, i watched him against hull and he impressed me, the only name i could here the commentators say that match was xisco, and i mean i bet he could do a better job then owen

oh god have to do it again : (, the team i would like to see against chelsea is

    beye taylor bassong enrique
    duff guthrie nolan guttierez
    martins lovenkrands

i think colo needs some time on the bench to think and i reckon taylor deserves to start at cb after his recent performances, i also think he should get thecaptains armband, i think it could only have a positive effect on him, also i think we should give xisco a chance he impressed me against hull, he was involved in everything, and i reckon he would do a job a lot better then owen, we cant afford to have a luxury player like owen in our starting 11 wen we r in a relgation fight, we need everyone puuling their weight and not just waiting for some1 else to make a chance for them, ok i might get critisized but hey thats wot i think.

You just know the game is up and the club is rotten when our own supporters boo a NUFC player coming onto the pitch. I was there and felt so embarrassed. I am no Ameobi admirer but the actions of thousands of supporters showed that we have lost the plot and faith in the team and club. I felt really sorry for the lad. Why would he want to play for such “great” supporters?

I think the legendary Robert Lee was right when he said we will need another 9points to get to safety. 2wins and 3draws will do the trick!! I am confident we can do it but we absolutely have to win our home games! We have to score 1st too!!

@ #10 well maybe the fans are sick to death of watching a person ATTEMPT to play for his so called “beloved club” and getting paid silly money by barely running and breaking a sweat, never mind shooting or scoring. Maybe it’s the fact that most people in the ground would play for Newcastle for free and all pay good, hard earned cash just to watch and this idiot gets a new contract for what reason? It’s because Joe Kinnear thinks he can turn him into ‘the Fash’. He’s living in the past, still off his Wimbledon days, let’s just hope Ameobi goes and presents gladiators next season because he couldn’t even hack it in the championship with stoke city, never mind with us.

Say what you want about the fans booing, granted it’s obviously not needed, but if these lazy players played with commitment and passion a little like stevie taylor then we wouldn’t be in this position.

if taylor and/or bassong not fit replace with colo + edgar

As I see it, the reason Ameoba got another contract is so that we can sell him in the summer and him not “walk away”
The reason (as I see it ) that we are in this predicament is “negative style of play (not tactics cos were tactically inept with Joe and toot and ploot in charge),playing not to lose games rather than playing to our strengths and attacking lesser teams away from home.
Its fine attacking teams at home and sometimes getting a goal (even 2 sometimes) but then to sit on a lead and drop so far deep that we can`t get the ball out of our half is criminal, inviting teams into shooting positions ,relying on blocks and saves from keepers rather than continuing to be offensive and keeping teams on the back foot.
Attack is the name of the game against Stoke, Boro, Portsmouth, fulham ,Chelski and even the Scousers as well as Villa.
We might not win all of the games ,but if we attack them with pace ,and leave 2 strikers up for their corners etc , we will restrict their taller players in the box and give us a quick outball.
That was one posotive from the Arse game, i noticed OBA stayed up front for their set plays, they left 2 players back to cover, if we do that against stoke, etc ,teams who rely on corners etc for goals, we might just catch them on the break.
All is not lost, we just need a lot of “GOOD” luck and some fight and attacking football and we can come through this , if not ,at least we can say we tried !!!!
Support the team, believe we can do it ,cos were not gonna go down without a fight, we have good players back, just need toot and ploot to motivate and get the lads up for it, if they dont know they`re in a battle now ,”GOD HELP US ALL” !!!

The treatment shola got at the weekend was a disgrace. The players need every ounce of our support. Assess things in the summer. There are players i think contribute nothing
but i don’t abuse them. Lets concentrate on the football but its difficult with clowns like hughton and calderwood in charge. Official website should organise a poll and let the fans pick the team

    my team for chelski

Nolan acting as a sweeper, smith and lovaman forcing the ball up the pitch and martins/owen making runs supported by duff and guttierez down the flanks.
The midfield need to be extremely mobile and aggressive, box to box, supporting the strikers and supporting the defence, as long as Nolans position never gets more than 20 yds past the defence we should be covered.

This is really off subject but does anyone else think Ryan Giggs gets far too much praise these days, having heard he might be shortlisted for the player of the season, I think it is a disgrace how someones past can contribute so much to the present time. Nicky Butt has been 10 times better than him this season

Agree with Toon_Factor, Giggs has not been that good, 1 or 2 goals is all!

Is Bassong’s injury a hip, groin or rib injury?!?

As for the article, I like Guthrie, spread the play well and is composed Far better than Fatboy Nolan, I’d be tempted to play Butt-Guthrie in central midfield as Nolan is fat, slow and pretty awful. He was at fault for Arsenal’s second goal too.
