Excellent Press Release From NUSC – They’re On The Right Track

We are pleased to print a press release from the Newcastle Supporters Club today.

nufc-crest4

We have not always been in favor of some of the things the NUSC has done since they were formed, because some of their events may have caused more upset than anything else, with the Newcastle fan base.

But that could now be in the past, as today’s Press Release from the group, seems exactly what is needed at the Newcastle United club right now.

Here is the Press Release we received this morning from Graham Harper of NUSC.

Altogether Now – Rallying call to supporters

“Newcastle United Supporters Club (NUSC) urges all fans to join together for a final push to fight the nightmare of finishing in the bottom three.”

“We can’t pick the team, select a manager, dictate tactics or buy and sell players. What we can do is fill the ground for each of the four remaining home matches, just as we know the hardcore away support will take up every away ticket.”

“Support for the team comes first and we urge everyone to make that the priority for the remaining weeks of the season. When the dust settles on this nightmare season that will be the time for supporters to decide if they want to pay their money and put their faith in whoever is running the club.”

“For many supporters not going to the match will never be a choice but many others may only continue to financially support Newcastle United if it is once again heading in the right direction.”

“Let’s send out a message to Mike Ashley and any prospective owner – the supporters are the club’s biggest asset and that with a truly ‘United’ club there is no limit to what can be achieved. The aim of a truly ‘United’ club will also be our future challenge to them.”

This is the very best message NUSC can send out, and it is just exactly what is needed for Newcastle fans right now, because the most important we have to do this season, is to keep the club in the Premier League.

We applaud NUSC for putting out such a sensible release, and now we can all start pulling in the same direction, and who knows, we may even be able to get that miracle and beat Chelsea a week come Saturday.

Howay The Lads!!

To put out a release like that shows their intentions.

The above is a minimum requirement of any fan. the fact they have had to say it to their own members leaves me aghast.

Fail to see what difference the fans can make when the team is so awful. The team could have all the support in the world but it doesnt make much difference if the players cant do the basics. At least against man yoo and l’arse they have huffed and puffed but in the end the quality comes through and that is why newcastle will go down. they dont have any.

stardust- Surely from reading this blog alone you can see that there are lots of fans not getting behind the club. They are still slagging off the owners and looking for scapegoats.

Yep – but I still try Benny – but I fear that the vast majority of our fans are sadly – “not the brightest”

Banjo’s and Badwagons spring to mind.

startdust, lets be fair. i dont rate NUSC either but this IS a positive statement. and it IS something that needed to be said right now. the clubs hierarchy wont say it(as they little or nothing) and nobody will listen to the so called ”coaches” or players as they have shown little fight themselves thus far. therefore a group like NUSC are one of the few that can. I found this to be a very positive statement, as should you. you do NOT always have to be so one-sided ya no

Honest question.. Do you think the players actually care though? We know Owen doesnt as he has played the club and is off in the summer. Martins cant be to happy at being offered to spurs as a make weight for Bent. Ameobi is probably sick of all the stick he recieves as is Hughton. And mike ashley wont be to impressed with the protesting mob so i doubt even he gives a toss anymore.

    Benny – wum off.

This is good from the NUSC, and their becoming a Supporters’ Trust is another good move. They may yet succeed.

This statement is also well-timed and much-needed. If we get another mass walk-out like we did against the Arse, then we deserve all we get.

The real supporters should block the exits to their aisles and stop the bottlers who try to leave early. Or just tw*t the pathetic gits and make them sit tight.

Likewise with the boo-boys. Anyone doing that should be taken outside and relieved of their consciousness right after the match. They are a cancer at this club, down there with the worst of what has happened to the club this year.

i am not sure they have great leadership in highton who i do not blame as he is a coach not a manager and is doing the best he can i also think they lack a winning mentality and confidence which can be tied to a winning mentality

    benny,
yeah i genuinely do think most of them care. they are being paid. if they have any respect or decency, then they would care. owen is a complete tosser, and an absolute disgrace. the martins rumour is not true and you know that so stop stiring. unfortunately we possibly have the worst coaching team i have seen in the premiership(bar maybe howard wilkinson) so that does not help benny

buddy- E ven if they didnt care they would still be payed. Do you not think that players like collocini and martins have not had there agents sound out other managers to see if they would be interested in the summer. I bet there are quite a few players who know they will be playing elsewhere wether you stay up or go down. I think only Taylor really cares and maybe your high earners who will have to take a pay cut if they want to stay in the division.

Agreed as they need to get their members into line. But I stand by my comment – surely what they have stated is the bare minimum at any time of being a fan.

I do accept though that theyve probably realised they are in charge of a crowd of monkeys who need guidance.

the nusc should’ve had this view at their inception. unforutnately their initial actions to try and force some change at st james’ was not constructive, and infact, the opposite of what they are now asking.

all they’ve done is taken the moral high ground so come relegation time it can not be said that the NUSC were not supportive of the team.

dont get me wrong, there’s plenty wrong at NUFC, but NUSC should’ve known better than to rock the boat midway through such a tumultuous season. i’m not saying its all their fault, but we all have to assume some blame… not too much though… we know where that lies

My only question is – how much of this press release is to appease and get more people on board after they had such a poor turnout at their last rally.

This seems to be a press release stating the obvious. Though reason seems to fly out the door when we’re in crisis mode.

    benny,
very fair point. i play rugby to a reasonably high level, and as bad as things are and even if I cannot sometimes care or give my all at rtaining i ALWAYS give my all in a match. I could not do anything else. i think basic human instinct of striving to win must apply to 90 % of people never mind professional sports people. therefore they must care. even if they want toleave in the summer, i cannot imagine a sportsperson not wanting to win,if only for the 50’000 that turmn up to support them aeach week. i no a bunch of them dont give 100%(they probably would not know the meaning) but i do believe they must care in the same way that i believe that ashley must care. you see my point here

    stardust,
there are idiots in every walk oflife. newcastle is a working class city, so there will be no shortage of small minded supporters. BUT they are all passionate (whther their opinions are right or wrong). i can re;ate toyour frustration BUT do not fdorget we are all NUFC supporters. division is the last thing we need right now(it cannot be prevented but i am sure you are wise enough to know that you may not be helping in some ways)

I think it’s deeply unfair to speculate on whether the players care. What I see isn’t a lack of will – it’s not like any of them look fresh at the end of a match.

What’s missing is depth of squad, confidence, leadership and tactical nouse. As for the Owen-bashing, that’s standard sour grapes that follows any player like him. What has he ever said to deserve the “disgrace” tag? Just because he doesn’t say much and keeps his head down.

Give the lads some credit – they’re our there working their disorganised butts off despite all this upheaval and crap from some sectors of the supporters.

nah man stardust i dont think you should stop posting. quite the opposite actually. as you said before you add balance to the argument and i think you will find that there are many many people who share similar(although more balanced imo) views. the difference these same people are probably more streetwise and intelligent(therefore have a job and not as much time to spend on a nufc blog). you are not alone but you should also try and help extermists on the opposite side to you see a middle ground as it is reli the only way forward(as i dont see ashley sellin up anytime soon)

Stardust: “a crowd of monkeys who need guidance” is the best description I’ve read for the ‘shouty mob’ within the Toon Army. Imagine 100 angry chimps screaming and jumping about, and you do kind of see a resemblance to some of the reaction we’ve seen…
