Newcastle fans are still awaiting more news on the condition of Sebastien Bassong, and hope the 22 year-old Frenchman will be available to play alongside Fabricio Coloccini against Chelsea a week come Saturday.
Sebastien Bassong challenges Bellamy at Manchester City
Something strange happened yesterday as Newcastle actually got some good news.
Steven Taylor’s ankle injury, following a scan, is only severe bruising, and the local lad will be ready to play in the vital Stoke City game, but will miss the upcoming Chelsea game.
Sebastien Bassong has a rib injury, and we still don’t know the extent of that, or whether he will be able to make the Chelsea game, so we await an update from the club on that.
Taylor left on crutches on Saturday night, and pulled out of England’s Under-21 squad for Friday’s game against Norway, and Tuesday’s visit of France.
So the news we received yesterday on Steven is probably the very best we could have hoped for, as this lad is currently in outstanding form, and Newcastle have to find some way to survive in the Premier League.
And news today that Chris Hughton has been pleased with the condition, in body and mind, of the players left training at the club – during the International break, and that’s good to hear.
Habib Beye and Michael Owen have only just returned from injury, and 21 year-old Danny Guthrie hopes to make the squad against Chelsea, so we are getting good players coming back, which is good.
Chris seemed pleased with the way training has been going this week:
“The tempo of training has been very good and if anything the quality has been getting better in the last couple of weeks.”
“I put it down to the reintroduction of players like Danny Guthrie, Habib Beye and Kevin Nolan, who’ve improved the squad,”
“And I am comfortable with the mood in the camp.”
If Newcastle are to survive this season the team will need to show improved form very quickly, and get something out of the Chelsea game, and then win at Stoke City on April 11th, but just how we can get those results is hard to fathom. Chelsea are in top form under Dutchman Guus Hiddink, and Stoke have been surprisingly strong at home this season.
But we’re hoping for the best, and 4 points in our next 2 games would be just terrific, and we have to hope the lads can find the inspiration to do that, from somewhere.
Comments welcome.

Comment #41@DJM – Our records against teams in the past are thrown out the door now mate. It doesn’t matter what we’ve done, it’s about the here and now. Our players need to turn up and put up an outstanding performance to try and really spank every team we come across.
GUNG HO is the only way, trying to defend a 1 goal lead will backfire!
