Chris Hughton has come out today and asked the Newcastle fans to keep the faith, and support the lads through the end of the season.
Chris Hughton – appeal to Newcastle fans
There was some discontent shown by some Newcastle fans during the defeat against Arsenal, and that was no doubt borne out of utter frustration, at yet another defeat.
Hughton hopes the fans will keep supporting the team through these very difficult times, and will not turn on him or the players:
“They’ve been excellent this season and we’re going to need them with us until the end of the season,”
“It doesn’t surprise me that the supporters were so good last weekend. The atmosphere was excellent against Arsenal, but it has been since I’ve been here.”
“It’s a vocal crowd, it’s a passionate crowd and a support that gets behind the team. Even in the difficult periods they get behind the team and that’s something that we appreciate.”
“It’s something that we’re going to need until the end of the season. We’ve got some big home games and those games have become even bigger because of the situation we’re in.”
“We’re going to need them as vocal and as passionate as they can be.”
Newcastle’s support has remained steadfast this season, despite the perilous predicament of the team, and of course there’s not many clubs that have their team supported like Newcastle, through thick and thin – mainly thin over these last four seasons.
Everybody knows that.
And the Newcastle fans have not been given a home win from the team for 7 games, things are that bad right now, but we are forever hopeful, and hope the lads can deliver that win against Chelsea, but that will be a gigantic challenge, but still possible.
Hughton did not notice the angry fans last time out at St. James’ Park, but admits he can understand them if they are frustrated and even angry, during this very difficult period for the club.
Chris continued:
“I think any reactions from supporters are done for the best reasons – they have the best interests of the club at heart,”
“There is a lot of frustration around at the moment and that is normal. I must admit I didn’t hear too many of the comments from supporters towards me last weekend. But it’s their club and they’re entitled to voice their opinions.”
“But you can see the passion of our fans at every game and they are vocal when we are doing well and when we are doing badly.”
It’s never been easy to support Newcastle United, that’s for sure, and if you support the club it’s quite likely because you just love the club, or were born and bred on Tyneside – and that will do it.
We have the very highest regard for Newcastle fans who are able to attend the home games, and we fully expect them to support the lads in the crucial last games of the season.
We all need to support the team, and put all the negativity to one side (and there’s more than enough of that around), at least until we can achieve safety this season.
If we do manage to survive what has been a such a dire season, we expect Mike Ashley to have a very busy summer indeed, as he and Joe Kinnear vastly improve the squad in both quality and quantity.
Anything less than that will not be good enough for the fantastic and faithful Newcastle fans – and we think Mike knows that.
It will be a case of now or never for Mike in the summer – we’re sure of that.
But before that comes, we have to somehow survive in the Premier League this season, and we know the Newcastle fans will once again we our biggest help.
They are, and always will be, the very heart and soul of Newcastle United.
Comments welcome.

Comment #52I’ve got no problems with CH as he’s been put in a position by the board that he can not get out of.
What I do have a problem with is the board not recognising the problem that JK is a potential time bomb even if he is given the all clear. They should pay him off for services rendered and appoint somebody this week.
The board also need to understand the following:
The squad is too small to be competitive in the premier league therefore we need to replace the players leaving during the next window and add at least another four first team players.
Somebody urgently needs to look at the coaching and physio room to understand why our players sustain so many injuries. We can not afford to have so many players injured season after season without understanding why. If it’s the staff, change them, if it’s the training or lack of it, change it but don’t carry on as if nothing is wrong because it is crippling the club and needs to be sorted out as a priority.

Comment #59‘he and Joe Kinnear vastly improve the squad in both quality and quantity’
Wit those 2 at the healm, especially the later the only players we’ll be able to attract once again are the likes of the Nolans and r. taylors out there.
We may go for a bunch of talented players, but none of them would come if they got and other offers.
JK is a real part of our current failures as a football team, whether his fit and on the sideline, or recovering in hospital is irrelevent.
again it as to be said, he’s a coach yes, a manager no!

Comment #60..believe it or not, I’ve heard it from a ‘reliable inside source’ that we haven’t won enough games for the last 4 years to warrant any kind of fight, let alone one from underneath the thrashing paws of underdogs.
However, I am a grade ‘A’ optimistic c*nt; one who frequently talks sh1te, yet continually expects the best from those who play in black and white.
3 points against Chelsea
