First of all let’s just say this is Sunday, so we are going to get a lot of made up stories in the papers today, but one very disturbing one is in the Sunday Express this morning.
Mike Ashley – Newcastle owner
The report is that Mike Ashley may take the Newcastle club into administration if Newcastle are relegated to the Championship, and that of course would be the worst thing to ever happen to the famous Newcastle United club, the best supported team in the land by a long way – given we’ve won nothing in 40 years and still fill St. James’ Park.
We’re vary of this story so let’s see what proof the Sunday Express has of this – yes we know the value of Newcastle will half if we get relegated but if Ashley’s not thinking of selling – who cares? And if we can come straight back up the value will return – so that’s hardly a strong reason.
The Express says administration would only be implemented as a last resort and not until Newcastle’s Premier League destiny is decided. Well that’s then retreating a little from their story and of course none of this will even be considered should the lads eventually wake up and actually start winning games.
They are one of the highest paid squads in the Premier League so if they are not embarrassed by6 being 3rd bottom – they should be.
But then the Sunday Express says that if Newcastle call in the Receiver now would mean a 9 point deduction and almost certain relegation, so why would the Express even mention this – because it’s just complete nonsense that Newcastle would ever think of it now.
And that Newcastle insider guy, who has been extremely busy while Newcastle have been in trouble these last few months, has been talking to the Express and this phantom employee said:
“We are looking at a Leeds United scenario. I don’t think people realize how serious things are at St James’ Park. Relegation would make it a complete disaster.”
Well that’s about the depth of this story and we don’t think it is too credible. Of course there will be the doom an gloom merchants who will jump on this and claim they knew this was coming.
But those same people probably want Newcastle to be in trouble – so they can right about all their dire predictions.
Doom and gloom merchants are never worth paying much attention to – but you always get them – they are everywhere – they just never help anything. When I was an executive at IBM, the sky was always just about to fall with some people, but the last I looked it was still there, and blue too. 😀
Newcastle fans from now until the end of the season will no doubt support the team and the management, at least until we are safe from relegation.
It’s not made easy of course, because this is something the popular press have been praying for – the 17th richest football club in the world with such a high wage bill and even some good players – gets relegated.
But then again most of these sports gossip papers are gloom and doom merchants – that’s how they sell their papers – we know that’s true.
We’d be daft to be drawn into this story.

“Stardust, when the accounts were signed off, Mike Ashley made an undertaking that he would fully support the club for the period until the next accounts are due. Thought you’d have mentioned that!”
