Why Do Newcastle Need Artur Boruc?

There is news today that Newcastle are on the verge of a £4M deal for Celtic goalkeeper Artur Boruc.

Artur Boruc– why would Newcastle want this player?

Presumably the news says that Artur would come to Newcastle in the summer, but why do we need another goalkeeper at Newcastle.

Currently Steve Harper is playing well for Newcastle, and the club has two outstanding young 20 year-old goalkeepers in Dutchman Tim Krul and Hexham-born Fraser Forster.

The news says that Newcastle see the controversial Pole as a long term replacement for Shay Given, who moved to Manchester City in January, but we have a lot of trouble understanding that.

If Newcastle are to spend £4M in the summer on a player the last thing we should be looking at is goalkeepers, and Boruc hasn’t had a great season at Celtic either.

Only yesterday Boruc conceded a terrible goal when playing for Poland, when he allowed a back pass slip under his foot in the World Cup 3-2 qualifying defeat to Northern Ireland.

Any move of course would be dependent on Newcastle avoiding relegation, which is true for all summer transfer talk right now.

This is a non starter. I live up in Scotland at the minute and this guy causes more problems with his antics than necessary. Clubs are trying to quash the problems between the two Glasgow clubs, and he wears pictures of the pope under his strip.

I mean it’s unlike our club take an underperforming, problem causing player on board, isn’t it?

Footballwise, we need a new goalie if Krul is not ready to step up. The problem is that Boruc comes with a baggage, he’s a troublemaker.

Harper is an highly average goalie at this level, if Krul is not nr 1 from the summer on, then we’ll need a new goalkeeper. If we stay up I’d say Kameni, he’s a Bosman in the summer. Many “if’s” around Newcastle these days…

Doncaster dont have a game until the 4th.

Boruc wasa good goalie but in the past year since he wife left him he has been absolue rubbish.

We dont need a new goalie anyway.

To be fair I’d rather Ed didn’t makes threads for stories like this, even thought they should be reported.

Tom, on the “rather Ed didn’t makes threads for stories like this” front, I’d rather he just wrote 2 or 3 longer, more potent stories per day. It’d certainly make the discussion boards more fluid.

…not knocking your commitment though Ed – fair play mate.

JoeColl87-exactly. the SFA are constantly going on about how they want the whole sectarian front between rangers and celtic killed off, yet one of Celtics biggest stars is running about with the pope underneath his shirt and purposly winding up the away end with similar behaviour during the old firm games. The guys an idiot man. Also, have you seen him celebrate? he dances around like a fairy, could definitly do without him.

Ye Rodzilla, I suggested that to him a while back, especially during the transfer window, just do a round-up each day.

jasontoon-IF we are relegated i cant see Harper leaving. He’s been with us for as long as he has and is finally getting his chance, i couldnt see him after waiting years and years, walking out on us after half a season inbetween the sticks.

….”running about with the pope underneath his shirt”….if that’s true mate he’s obviously an idiot.

(or he has a pretty big shirt) 😉

…sorry mate, yeah. Inciting violence is never clever. Especially on such sensitive grounds as religion (or football to some of us).

Rodzilla- haha, i understand that must have sounded a bit different! Well aye i moved up to Scotland a few year ago now and obviously have good mates who are both Rangers and Celtic fans. Since i’ve been here i’ve seen him do some pretty stupid stuff, such as the pope tshirt mentioned. Im sure he was down on both knees praying infront of the away end at one point aswell which isnt too clever. Along with the simple stuff like swearing at them when the ball is out of play. probably all quite funny if you’re a celtic fan but idiotic none the less!

Reminds me of the time Gazza played the flute to the celtic fans, and they certainly werent very happy!

…”Gazza played the flute to the celtic fans”

….yeah mate, I was gona mention that one. It’s certainly a touchy subject. Football is a very passionate discipline – a sport to those on the pitch, and a way of life and personal identity to those off it. Sometimes players fail to understand their own club’s mentality and can duly kick up a right sh1t storm.

Rodzilla-agreed. I dont think the foreign players (or anyone who isnt involved with said religion, or from glasgow for that matter) will really understand the full extent of something like the old firm, hence certain actions causing more trouble than they’re worth. Gazza however, was in reaction to the celtic fans giving him grief and he knew fine well what he was doing, lol.

But aye, once again-dont want Boruc. Christ Harper has waited long enough we shouldnt even be starting to consider another keeper besides krul.

Religion exists as people believe in it. Religion is the BELIEF of a higher power, not the higher power itself. Therfore religion does exists, it is just a bunch of boll**ks.
