We had reported yesterday that Newcastle United Football Director, Dennis Wise, will very likely leave the Tyneside club in the summer.
Dennis Wise – to quit over Lovenkrands signing?
And the news is that he was against Newcastle signing Peter Lovenkrands, whom he thought just wasn’t good enough for Newcastle.
We do remember in January that Joe wanted to sign the Danish International outright, and then he brought him on trial, and even then it was a couple of weeks before he was signed, and then only until the end of the season.
So those events probably had a little of Wise’s influence on it, and it seems Joe Kinnear worked with Dennis on that one.
But if Dennis is really leaving because he took some heat on that one, that tells us he’s a strong personalty who wants to be right, and that’s dangerous when you are part of a team.
This could be some proof that Dennis really did knock heads with Kevin Keegan, and of course Kevin lost out in early September.
We really hate to bring this up, but if Wise leaves in the summer, that means that in a short and tumultuous 9 months for Newcastle, both Kevin and Wise have left the club.
It would have been so much better for Mike Ashley to have stood by Kevin in early September, even if it had meant Dennis Wise was out at Newcastle.
Then Newcastle would probably be in the top six right now – but hey – we don’t even want to think about where we’d be right now – it’s too painful.
But make no mistake, the biggest mistake Mike Ashley has made at the club is to back Dennis Wise, who has no connection at all with Newcastle United – and played all his football in London, and continues to live there.
Mike backed Dennis over Kevin Keegan, who both played for and captained Newcastle, and then managed them to one of their best ever periods in the 1990s.
A mistake – you bet it was! That was really a very dumb thing for Mike to do, and he probably knows that now.
But yes we know, it’s all water under the Tyne Bridge now, but it’s good that Dennis is leaving, since to put it mildly, Newcastle fans have never taken to this man.
Oh well, let’s just hope we can survive this terrible season, and things can only get better from now on, that’s right isn’t it?
Comments welcome.

Comment #41Excellent article Ed – and I agree with your view that backing a nobody like Wise against a United legend like Sir Kevin was one of Ashley’s biggest mistakes – although he’s made so many…….
Good riddance to the poison dwarf, one of the most reviled people in football. As Sir Alex once said “he could start a fight in an empty house”.
CAN WE HAVE SIR KEVIN BACK NOW???

Comment #42So we are going from being the biggest club in the world to have absolutely NO top-flight management experience to being the ONLY club with no management experience at all, unless you count a nice chap who’s in bed with a Chad Valley heart.
Yay!
Honestly – are we really surprised that we’re 50/50 to go down?

I’m gutted at what has happened to it.
I honestly do not care a jot about who is in charge, who the manager is & who plays….as long as they are doing the business & for the best interests of the club.
this lot are beyond belief……

“So we are going from being the biggest club in the world …”
When were we ever “the biggest club in the world” Whumpie? We have never been even been close to that.

Comment #46out with wise. good thing for the Toon. Also- out with Bennytool. Go back to Spuds’ board, man. Please- support your own team and leave us alone. You cause nothing but needless foolishness. Like a silly little child trying to prove to himself that he’s cool by raggin’ on about a team down on their luck. Get bent, mate.
Howay the Toon. 3 points against Chelsea and 0 points to blackburn this weekend. Fingers crossed, like. Cant blame a man for being hopeful 🙂

“out with wise. good thing for the Toon.”
OHurley, some of the newspapers over here have about the same levels of credibilty as the ‘National Enquirer’ over there, and Ed has made this story sound far more credible than it actually is. It’s almost certainly garbage.

Comment #48Nobby Long, 2 really good posts (26, especially, and 44).
But with regard to your second post, that is why I don’t have a problem with Wise. I don’t like the bloke, but he seems to be doing a decent job. If he had a disagreement with Keegan I have no problem with that. But Ashley should have sorted it out in KK’s favour (because he was manager). The rest of it was our absent owner’s fault. No doubt Ashley just couldn’t afford to lose another manager and so JFK ultimately won the war over Lovenkrands. But we’ve seen so many crap signings, I’m glad to see a chief scout arguing his corner.
Another thing I have to say in Wise’s favour is that throughout all of the past months of turmoil, there hasn’t been a squeak out of him to the press and that makes a refreshing change. As long as the owner keeps him in his place and pecking order, I have no problem with Wise.
– I am assuming here that the miserly transfer budget, the decision to sell Milner, Given and N’Zog and the ridiculous ‘ pay upfront and sell on tick’ policy are not of Wise’s invention.
