Sensational news this morning – and we use our words advisedly – that Alan Shearer is set to be appointed as Newcastle manager until the end of the season, BBC Sport is reporting.
However, it is April 1st and we would have expected some stuff to come out – but very professional sites are reporting this news – however, we do note it’s not on the Newcastle official web site yet.
Alan Shearer – new Newcastle manager – but is this an April Fool joke?
Alan has been critical of Mike Ashley before, which is why if this is indeed true it will come as a huge shock, but very pleasant news, to Newcastle fans everywhere.
Former Newcastle chairman Freddy Shepherd told BBC Radio 5 Live:
“It’s great news. Newcastle are in a fight now, they’re in the trenches, and I think Alan is the guy to carry on that fight.”
Kevin Gallacher, a team-mate and striker from Shearer’s playing days at both Blackburn Rovers and Newcastle United, said this morning:
“It’s a surprise appointment – it’s thrown me a googly to say the least. Obviously with Joe being out unwell something had to happen.”
“You’re just hoping that with all the hype that’s going to follow the team is going to pick it up. Not all great players make great managers but Alan has a great football brain.
“Players always need a leader and now Alan’s there he’ll command the respect of the players. He has eight games to pick them up, starting with Chelsea, and that’s a tough order.”
“The fans will be out celebrating as soon as they hear the news. Alan is so high on the pedestal at Newcastle.”
We will fully believe this story when it’s on the official Newcastle United web site, which it isn’t yet, and this could still be one huge April Fools on Newcastle fans.
But right now we’ll keep our powder dry, because we were sent some strange notes last night, said to be from Derek Llambias at Newcastle saying we were allowed to publish some other big news, with what looked to be an official email – and we still think somebody may have taken the bait.
It could also be some of the very best news that Newcastle fans have been waiting for, for a very long time, so let’s hope this story is true.
If it is true – lots more later!

your crack is officially the worst on here so until you think of something witty or semi intelligent to say, i wont be responding to you, you atavistic tool.
as for being negative, i make no apologies for not jumping on the band wagon which could easily de rail just as the good train Keegan did. I will continue as always, unlike most, supporting the club through thick and thin no matter of the circumstances.
This is a fantastic move from Ashley, and could well give us the impetus and motivation for survival, there, that positive enough for ya, you puppet?!?!?!

Yeah, it’s hilarious. First of all you suggested that we take Les Ferdinand off you, and now you’re suggesting that we get Gary Lineker instead.
Are there any other strikers that you’d like to recommend 🙂

Comment #135ryantoon- silly boy . 4th best supported team in the country. When you consider how many teams there are in london that is good going. Newcastle are 5th by the way as shown in a couple of recent polls(google it).

Is this me just missing the blatant April fools gag, or is there something else in this? I’m not sure what to believe today.
