Bassong, Taylor Miss Chelsea Game – Owen Starts

nufc-crest4 chelsea.png

Alan Shearer, as expected, has recalled Newcastle captain Michael Owen for his first game in charge of managing Newcastle United.

But bad news on the injury front as both Steven Taylor (ankle) and Sebastien Bassong (groin) are not fit enough to play, which is a big blow for the team.

But this will give Habib Beye his first start since he was injured on Boxing Day at Wigan, and Ryan Taylor is brought in at right back for his name-sake Steven Taylor with Beye likely to partner Coloccini in central defense.

Kevin Nolan and Nicky Butt, again as expected. start in central midfield, and they will be flanked by Peter Lovenkrands and Jonas Gutierrez. Oba Martins partners Owen in attack.

We need 3 points from this game today, and we’ll be back after the game.

Howay The Lads!!

TEAMS

Newcastle United: Steve Harper, Ryan Taylor, Jose Enrique, Habib Beye, Fabricio Coloccini, Nicky Butt, Kevin Nolan, Jonas Gutierrez, Peter Lovenkrands, Michael Owen (c), Oba Martins

Decent team, happy to see a good bit of pace/attacking presence in the side!

Obviously I’d prefer to see Bassong and Taylor in there, but Beye at CB is a good call!

Hopefully see Guthrie coming on at some point, he was imense in the reserves from what I could tell on nufctv…

C’mon Newcastle! Think it’s a good team considering Bassong and Taylor are out. Bit dissapointed that Blackburn got 3p today, but nevermind that, we will perform anyway against Chelsea!

Blackburn winning is a huge blow. Still, we can catch them and Stoke with a win. Next week.

Interesting that Stroller Ameobi’s not even on the bench…

1503: GOAL West Brom 0-1 Stoke
Shocker from Shelton Martis as he completely misjudges the bounce and lets Ricardo Fuller race on to a pass behind him, the striker cutting inside and shooting from 20 yards, the ball going under the dive of Scott Carson and into the net. Seen that before.

    Shit

We can’t expect miracles from Alan. We always thought we would lose this one and the defence he has had to put out means a defeat is likely. What we must do is keep the faith. We have to win at Stoke. A MUST win game. Stoke are winning at WBA. Lose the Stoke game and we are down. Shearer is not a magician. Win it and we have every chance of staying up. A draw is no good. I will be pleased with a competitive game today. Shame Butt is playing
