Jonas Gutierrez Crucial For Newcastle – Shearer

Alan Shearer has come out today and said he thinks that Argentine winger Jonas Gutierrez can be a vital player for Newcastle during the run-in to the season.

Shearer shares joke with Jonas Gutierrez during training Thursday

Alan talked to the Newcastle Journal today, before the more than crucial game with Chelsea this afternoon:

“Jonas will definitely be crucial. He has a crucial part to play, but we need him to get further up the pitch and hurt teams in their half.”

“I don’t think anyone works harder than he does, but I want to get him nearer the opposition’s penalty area so that he is creating things for us going forward.”

“He has the ability to really hurt teams and we want to see him doing it regularly. It’s about getting him higher up the pitch so that when he gets the ball, he is in a position to attack the defense.”

“He definitely has something about him. He also defends very well for a wide player, but I’ve told him I want him to be moving forwards more.”

Jonas has played some great games for Newcastle but his skill is in creating chances for the side, as he gallops down that wing to get to the bye-line before picking oput players in the box.

Gutierrez doesn’t score too many goals, and he missed a couple of good chances when we could only draw with Hull 1-1 away a few weeks ago.

But this lad is a good player and seems to have a regular place now in the Argentine side, and of course he just loves it at Newcastle, even though it’s been a topugh season for the cvlub.

If Newcastle do get relegated he would be one that would be leaving the club, although there would be plenty of suitors for him in the Premier League.

But Alan is obviously hoping Jonas can set some goals up for Michael Owen, who can usually dispatch them into the net. Michael has already said he is delighted to have Alan back at the club, and we have to look for something from Michael this afternoon – after all he is the captain, and some goals would be very nice.

A couple of Owen goals and a win would be perfect this afternoon – that’s for sure.

Howay The Lads!!

Champion, how or why Hughton and Kinnear kept dropping him for Duff is beyond belief

I thought it was going to be on Sentanta, bugg*r! Going to now have to struggle to find a stream or wait fro MOTD. I’d like to see Duff playing, he has looked good in recent games and would probably raise his game against his former team. I want Jonas and Guthrie in as well.

he right though, when he has played well its because he has been up the pitch he is not as effective if he isnt, because running past a midfielder leaves you tired if you are then to get past a defender… cant wait to go to the game now gna be a great atmosphere!!!

BillF, divvent worry man! There are lots of streams for this game, which isn’t surprising really.

I would recommend the Veetle / Fox soccer channel one.

Cheers workyticket, would have replied earlier but have been working. I usually find that streams work ok for a while and then just bomb. Will have a go though.

Jonas reminds me of a bloke I used to work with.
We’d play squash and beating him was extremely difficult – but there again I wasn’t much good.
He didn’t have a lot in the way of skill – when you put a ball into the corner he’d run after it, swing and back it comes. Put it in the other corner, same again. Sheer physical fitness and enthusiasm. But no actual skill.

Jonas is the same. Lot of running, maybe a bit more skill, but just not good enough in the skill department.

Theres a reason he hasn’t scored for us.

And as for Colloccini – maybe he got Bramble’s locker?
