Statement On The Newcastle United Blog

I have been running The Newcastle United Blog for almost two years now, and over that time we have had over 17M hits on the site, and a fairly good following, and we’ve become more popular than I ever imagined.

However, we have never been able to make any money off the site, and only recently our revenue has been cut drastically, because of changes made in the way revenue is paid out by YardBarker. So it’s really peanuts we make, and they’re the cheap variety too. 😀

But now that I spend around 6 hours a day on the blog, there are other things I really would like to pursue in my retirement from IBM, before it’s too late.

Getting up at 4:00am every morning is not something I want to continue to do for too much longer, and therefore we will try to keep going until the end of the season, but this will be our final season covering the side.

We were going to end the blog last Wednesday April 1st, but of course Alan Shearer was appointed manager so we think it better, given the predicament of the team, to continue through the end of the season, albeit with reduced content, and hope the lads can survive in the Premier League.

Hopefully Alan will be able to bring Newcastle United back to the greatness it deserves.

Thanks for your support over the last couple of years, and of course there are a number of excellent fan sites that will continue to cover Newcastle United.

Dr. Ed Harrison.
