We’re not sure it’s a particularly good thing to have our players talk too much to the press these days.
Jose Enrique – not thinking of relegation
But of course that’s really part of their job, but we sometimes think the words from them are rather hollow and the say what they think the fans want to hear, rather than what they really think – but what’s new?
Jose Enrique, who is now playing much better than earlier in the season, talked yesterday about new interim manager Alan Shearer:
“We have confidence now, and we think, with him in charge, we can win games,” “From the first three days, the impression is good.”
“He scored more goals than anyone in the Premier League.” “He was a very good player, and I think he can be a very good manager.”
Newcastle probably need four wins and 12 points to survive this season and end up with 41 points with just 7 games to go. That would be out worst point total in the Premier League and the 3rd year running we’ve finished the season with our worst points total ever – how’s that for a continual decline.
We had 43 points and a goal difference of -9 two years ago and 43 points and a goal difference of -20 last year.
But the thing that is really worrisome is that after the WBA game we were saying almost the same thing, and then we had 13 games left. But in our last 6 league games we’ve got two measly draws against Everton and Hull City, and if the rot doesn’t stop soon, we’ll be down – make no mistake about that.
And we’ll deserve it – that’s what makes all this so difficult. Jose talked about the arrival of Alan Shearer yesterday:
“We’re not thinking about the Championship,” “We have very good players, and we will go to Stoke believing we can win the game.”
We’ll go so far as to say if we cannot get the win at Stoke on Saturday, then it will become more likely rather than less likely – that we’ll be relegated. Yes we have to keep the faith and we will, but let’s hope the players know the gravity of the situation the club finds itself in. It seems like a nightmare scenario that is finally coming home to roost.
The games we have to save ourselves are starting to run out, which is why our game at Stoke City this coming Saturday has to be our most important game so far this season.
Of course a win will see Newcastle fans in orbit on Saturday evening, and that’s what we have to hope and pray for – but it’s now up to the players

Zaki was a one hit wonder, his honeymoon days in the Premier League are over and he’s a stuck up little twat who doesn’t know the value of what he’s got.
Bruce gave him a chance in England, no thanks did he give, yet he fails to return to his club, who pay him. We don’t need them at Newcastle, no way.
As for Jo, quality player who in years to come will be a Brazilian starter. Height and he has a good left foot. Confidence is everything. What’s that they say? ‘Form is temporary, class is permanent ‘
As for Nani, hate the look of him, very good player though.

Comment #47ryantoon – if enrique is rubbish then that makes the rest of our players worse than rubbish, he’s performed better than butt, guthrie, nolan, barton, R,Taylor and poss S.taylor ( other than 3 games )
sat next to some fans like you on Sat who constantly whinged and wouldnt join in singing once, just sat there swearing and slagging off the team
to be honest i can’t understand why people like you bother supporting the toon, surely you would be better off following manure

It wouldn’t surprise me. I know for a fact that there are a few on here with 2 or 3 accounts. It is clear in their writing style and strong opinions towards certain personnel.

Comment #53To say Enrique is crap is ridiculous. Alot of people have been on his case for a long time now and even when he starts to show form revert back to claiming he’s only had “2 or 3 good games for us”?..Obviously people have missed him linking up with Gutierrez down the left, which has looked very promising. Obviously people missed his derby performance @ sjp, when he again had an excellent game.
He has said himself he was braught up on the spanish game and is very much an attacking minded full back-something which he is starting to prove for us. Look at some of the best full backs in the world-what do they have going for them?, they’re all excellent coming forward and are a pivotal part of alot of teams attacking mentality. I just cant understand people constantly slating a spanish u21 international, still learning his trade. Obviously Newcastle have no time for players such as him and we should just ship him off in return for a middle aged, middle of the range premiership hangabout?
