It was always going to be a difficult task for even Alan Shearer to come in, and change the fortunes of the Newcastle club quickly.
Nicky Butt – massive game against Stoke City
However, unless that is done quickly, we could well miss the last bus to safety, and be relegated from the Premier League for the first time in our history.
Nicky Butt will be an important player for Alan in the run-in, for both his experience and he is also one of Newcastle’s leaders on and off the pitch.
Nicky talks about the upcoming Stoke game, which we think the lads just have to win on Saturday.
Nicky said today:
“It was always going to be a massive game, regardless of what happened against Chelsea,” “And it was always going to be a tough game no matter who was in charge.”
“But we know what is needed. It’s one of the games where we’re going to have to roll our sleeves up because they have been excellent at home and a lot of teams have found how difficult a place it is to go.”
“Every match is massive, but this one and the three home games take on extra importance because they’re against teams down there at the bottom.”
“But with Alan coming in it’s been a good week and we’ve been able to work on a lot of positives from the Chelsea game.”
The Stoke game may come too early to see any significant improvement in the form of the team under Alan and Iain, but we always looked at the Stoke game as one we could and should win.
However, Stoke have an excellent home record, and only last weekend they had their first away win of the season at WBA, so they’ll be full of confidence, and they have an excellent group of supporters backing them too.
But a Newcastle win can get the side within 3 points of Stoke City, and we have then some winnable games coming up at home against the hapless Middlesbrough and the mediocre Portsmouth sides, so Saturday would be a great time to get back on that winning track again.
Wishing and hoping – as always!
