Alan Shearer is working on the players’ confidence at Newcastle but we are so short of goals recently, that he has to work out how we can create more support and opportunities for our strikers.
Michael Owen – link up play is excellent
The Newcastle manager talked to Newcastle TV this morning:
“We have to try and create more chances for them,” “We have got two very good goalscorers.”
“It was always going to be difficult against Chelsea because of who we were up against.” “We sacrificed Michael a little bit trying to help us out in midfield because of the power that they had and he did that very, very well.”
“But in doing that we weren’t able to get him into the right areas and, when he did, either the delivery let us down or there weren’t enough people in there.” “But that is something for us to work on.”
We’re pretty sure that Alan will have talked about the team with Kevin Keegan by now, and maybe discussed how best to use Michael Owen is the side.
Michael is a much better footballer than he’s often given credit for, and he links the play up well when he plays in a deeper role, but Alan’s right, we cannot really sacrifice him too much as he’s got to get in that penalty box to get a few goals, otherwise things will become even bleaker than they are right now..
We’re sure Alan is taking in all the advice he can get from the likes of Keegan and Bobby Robson, and maybe he should consider allowing Bobby Robson to come into the dressing room before the Stoke City game to give the lads a little pep talk.
Bobby is a legend, and he can still stir one or two souls with his words – that’s for sure. We need to try anything and everything in an attempt to save the club this season.
