Alan Shearer Challenges Newcastle Players To Produce

At his press conference last Thursday Alan Shearer was quite clear that it was up to the players to produce for Newcastle United this afternoon, and he also talked this morning about the way Oba Martins can produce for the side.

Oba Martins – never know what he will do next

Shearer talked about Martins:

“He is a very different player to what Michael brings.” “But what the opposition fear with Oba is they are not sure what he is going to do because at times, he probably doesn’t know himself.”

“You can take that as a negative or a positive, but he is a threat.” “He is good in the air, he can score great goals and we are going to need that every bit as much from him as we are Michael.”

“As we are Shola (Ameobi), as we are Andy Carroll.”  “We are going to need all those players firing on all cylinders.”

Of course Newcastle need goals badly, and we have just 3 in the last 6 games which have really took us into the bottom three with a bang, getting just two draws form those games and 4 defeats. We are certainly due a win, if that’s anything to go by. 😀

Of course three of those six games were against the top 4 teams in the league, in Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea, but we should have done a lot better against Hull City and Bolton away from home.

As well as cutting out the silly mistakes in defense, the team has to start creating chances for the boys up front.

Shearer added:

“We are going to have to start creating some chances because otherwise, there is no point in having Michael, no point in having Oba or the two big lads in Shola and Andy.”

“And hopefully, Mark Viduka – and the young lad, Nile Ranger.” “We have got to start giving them a bit of ammo.”

Of course we have Steven Taylor and Jose Enrique out today, which is a pityu but we think a back four of R.Taylor, Beye Bassong and Duff should be talented enough to put in a good display this afternoon.

And Alan Shearer was as straight as a dye at his press conference on Thursday afternoon, when he coolly answered questions form the press. Alan made the point that you can have all the excuses you like, and can prepare and talk endlessly about what we have to do to win the game today, but it’s up to the lads to go out there and be brave enough and gutsy enough to get the win.

That was the bottom line, and Alan was so clear and straight about what needs to be done, and he challenged the players to produce this afternoon, and said it was imperative we got 3 points.

With Blackburn being easily beaten 3-0 by Fernando Torres earlier this afternoon, sorry make that Liverpool earlier today, then that’s one result in our favor and we can gain a full 3 points on both Stoke and Blackburn with a win today.

I was looking for my own boots at the end of Alan’s press conference, so if the lads aren’t inspired today – they just never will be, and Alan will need to get some other players in there, maybe the youngsters, to get the job done.

Alan has Nile Ranger and Andy Carroll in the squad today, after both impressed for the Reserves on Monday night.

Howay The Lads!!

    Finally the nod to nile!
I really hope gutierrez and martin’s start producing because their spontineity is refreshing for the side and makes them two of my favourite players, but unless they produce its from spontaneous to erratic.

but unless they produce its from spontaneous to erratic.

Spot on, it’s a fine, fine line between the two, but all it takes is a moment of brilliance (which we know they are both capable of) and it’ll be the difference between a win and a loss!

We got some major problems at the moment:
    – Middlesbrough 2:1 Hull
    – Porstmouth 1:0 West Brom
I would prefer that both Middlesbrough and Portsmouth lose today!!

Only good current scores are :
    -Mackems 0:1 Man Utd
    -Spuds 0:0 West Ham

That’s the thing, it might be good for Hull to lose cause it allows us to hopefully pull closer to them, but if Boro win then we’d be 2nd bottom at the start of our match, which we really don’t want.

Yer! Well we will see… My ideal results would be (considering 1/2 time scores):

    Boro 2-2 Hull
    Pompey 1-2 West brom
Sunderland 0-3 or 4 Man Utd

And Spurs vs West Ham dont matter, because neither will get dragged back, but I hate Spurs so:

    West Ham 3-0 Spurs!

    Oh yer, I almost Forgot!

    Newcastle 3-1 Stoke!

I laughed earlier at a 5live commentator claiming that spurs need the three points if they hoped to claim a European spot! They’re nearly as bad as us 🙂

We really could do with a hull draw…

I actually believe Toon can win today, long time since I felt like this…

With Bassong back the defence is much stronger, if Harper actually can stop a few balls Toon should come out on top.

My prediction: 1-3. Shawcross, Owen 2 and Gutierrez(!)

I agree with Tom4Nufc’s wishful scores, those would be ideal !

Onto our team this afternoon, I really feel that despite Colo’s recent form, he’ll improve with Bassong back. That means an almost complete back-four as follows:
Beye – Colo – Bassong – Taylor (if chosen)

Given the above, I’m pretty sure that we’ll make it difficult for them. I just really hope that Guthrie and Nolan play together in the centre this afternoon!

I don’t think duff is the answer for left back, I could see him getting caught upfield. Strange how we were all worried about Enrique earlier in the season, and now we appreciate him when he can’t play.

well brom winning has a good thing and bad thing.

good thing, they drag pompey close to sunderland. which means IF we get 3 points today, they wld be just 1 point ahead of us (pompey and sunderland and pompey have one game in hand but thats against manures).
also hull losing means they also are dragged into the relegation battle slowly, and if stoke lose, stoke wld also be just 3 points away.

its a must win situation. wld he great if only boro and hull drew that wld make this much better and will give us a relaxing space. but i think last season when we played birmingham , we were 20th and in the end managed not to get relegated. the key today is to stuff 3 goals before half time, else god bless us.

if u guys dont believe in god, start believing till the end of the season !
