Newcastle United defender Habib Beye has come out this morning and talked about local hero Andy Carroll.
Habib Beye – Andy’s goal Saturday looked like an Alan Shearer goal
Habib talked about Andy this morning:
“It will help Andy that we now have a manager who was a top striker who he can learn from.”
“He has shown his quality before and he showed it again. It looked like a Shearer goal (against Stoke City).”
“Andy is a nice lad, a Geordie lad and loves the club. He is proud of what he is doing.”
After Saturday’s game it looks to us like Shearer has found somebody with the spirit he used to show when he played for Newcastle, and we trust Andy will see a lot of playing time in the last 6 games of the season. From the 18 points available Habib believes the team needs 4 wins and 12 points to survive.
However, in our last 14 league games we have just 8 points, pne win and 4 draws, which is worse than dismal, but then again we have to be due some good wins, looking on the positive side.
If we can get 12 points that will give us 42 points, which should be enough, but would be the lowest points total ever for Newcastle in the Premier League, one less than last year’s total.
We must have a decent chance against Portsmouth, Middlesbrough and Fulham at home, although the Cottagers beat Manchester City 3-1 yesterday at Eastlands, and look to be in very good form now under manager Roy Hodgson.
Roy of course somehow saved Fulham from massive relegation problems last season, when they managed to win 4 of their last 5 league games to stay up at the death, but only on goal difference (by 3 goals) with just 36 points, and 3rd bottom Reading were relegated.
That was a miracle for sure, and it also points the way that we could do the same thing – because with the support Newcastle have, anything has to be possible.
