When you look at the comments Alan Shearer has made on Andy Carroll this morning, in the Shields Gazette, it looks very likely that Andy will get a start at Spurs on Sunday.
Andy Carroll – after scoring great goal at Stoke
And Alan talked today about how the things Andy did in the last 20 minutes last Saturday, he had been doing every day in training, in front of the watching Alan Shearer.
Alan talked about Andy today:
“Andy has been doing that sort of thing since I got here,”
“We had him in sessions all week, and he did it all week. To be fair to Shola, he worked very hard without much success in front of goal.”
“It was the right time to make a change, because Shola hasn’t played much. Neither has Andy, and it would have been good to start with him.”
“They’ve given me problems, and that’s what I want. I want as many selection problems as possible.” “We’ve still got injuries, but we can handle it.”
Ameobi didn’t have a particularly good game on Saturday, although he linked up quite well in the first half, but was at fault for not picking up Abdoulaye Faye on that corner in the first half.
Shearer continued:
“We went in with a man-marking situation, and every man was designated a player to mark.”
“Unfortunately, it was Shola he’s got away from. I have to say that I was bitterly disappointed it was a corner to start with. TV replays show it was a goal-kick.”
But that’s the way things go, and Newcastle were at fault for the goal, and Ameobi must have been asleep. It’s a real pity because if we could have kept the clean sheet in the first half, after being outclassed, we could have come away with the victory.
But that’s all water under the Tyne Bridge now, and we’ll have to try to learn from the mistakes from last Saturday, and take those lessons into the game at White Hart Lane on Sunday.
Certainly a win on Sunday would completely revivify the Newcastle club and their fans.
Comments welcome.

39 yards and 64 mph with no spin and more of a punt – an excellent goal by all accounts. We can only wish for one of our to do that!

Comment #8Feel a bit sorry for you actually. I remember what it felt like when we used to go into games with steffan iversen up front. The manager kept telling the fans he was a good player and as much as i tried to convince myself deep down i knew he was rubbish. Its the same with shearer trying to big carrol up.

Wow. New word.
Carroll should start, but with both Loverboy and Martins out, we’re lacking pace up front. I hate to say it, but starting with Duke and Carroll up front with Owen just behind seems the best way to go, then bring Ranger on when the Duke gets crocked in the 11th minute…

Comment #18Turkish….I heard that the game between Galata and Fener was a disaster…with 4 red cards and a lot of violence.

Comment #22Start Andy and pair him with Martins (if recover). Besides, Viduka also a great pair for him that can give advantages to us in holding and heading ability.
