Oba Martins Still A Doubt For Spurs On Sunday

Alan Shearer has talked to the Newcastle United TV this morning and there is a doubt over Oba Martins’ fitness, for the game at Spurs on Sunday afternoon.

Oba Martins – touch and go for Sunday in London

Martins has not trained this week at all, after the recurrence of his groin strain last Saturday, but he has not been ruled out of the game at White Hart Lane yet either.

Alan talked about Oba’s injury this morning:

“Oba has not trained this week,” “But we haven’t ruled him out and we’ll continue to monitor his fitness before making a late decision.”

And Alan was at pains to play down any talk of a showdown with the Nigerian striker, after Shearer had been disappointed with Martins missing the game at the last minute last Saturday at Stoke.

Alan continued:

“The whole thing was forgotten about afterwards,” “Oba never broke any rules or curfew and all I was disappointed with was the timing of things.”

“But I’ve spoken to him and everything is fine, and we’re hoping he’ll be fit as soon as possible.”

The good news is that more of our players seem to be returning from injury since Alan took over the reigns at he club, which of course is good news, and now the lads just have to start producing some wins, so we can get out of danger – hopefully before the end of the season.

It would probably be wise to give Oba a rest on Sunday, so he will be fully fit for the Portsmouth game, or maybe Alan could use him on the bench, and only introduce him if absolutely necessary on Sunday.

If Newcastle can indeed survive this season, then the summer promises to be one of the most exciting summer transfer windows for many a year, as long as Alan is appointed long-term manager, which we fully expect him to be.

So if we can get these dark clouds past us, the future looks a lot brighter – we hope so anyway.  😀

I thought I would add a comment or two to the discussion several threads ago and already find I was too late to join as so many more new ones have appeared. As I am one of the more mature bloggers I have only so many brain cells to use before my head starts to hurt so perhaps in future I will wait until the final one appears, so long as it is before my afternoon nap.

Owen and Carroll up front will rip Spurs apart, and just think if Oba makes the subs bench!!!!!!!

Personally, i’d like to see Carroll and Ranger up front. How can they be any worse than owen or Oba? Carroll scores regularly, as does ranger, Owen 3 months ago, Oba? Can anyone remember? I can’t! give the lads a chance, they are hungry and have something to prove.
