Bassong Tries To Give Some Hope To Newcastle Fans

Our best player at Newcastle this season, without much doubt, has been our young 22 year French center-back Sebastien Bassong.

Seb Bassong – Newcastle’s best player this season

And Sebastien is not only playing well right now, when it matters, but he also has a tremendous attitude, and whatever happens come the summer, we have to hope we can keep this lad at Newcastle United.

And Bassong has come out today and attempted to give the Newcastle supporters some renewed hope, when he told the Evening Chronicle:

“We’re very disappointed about the Spurs result.” “We didn’t do enough to get the result we wanted.”

“The situation is starting to get very hard for us, but we just have to be ready for the next game.” “I think we can still win this fight – we have to.”

“Everyone believes that we can do it.”

The Chronicle is reporting that Bassong has refused to sign a new contract, offered to him by the club, as he probably wants to see which other bigger clubs may be interested in him during the summer.

We have to hope we can keep Bassong at the club, but it’s hardly been a season where the players have liked what’s gone on behind the scenes, and the fact we have had four different managers this season, Bassong’s very first at the Tyneside club.

We hope he stays but we wouldn’t blame him if he wanted to move onto a bigger club, like Arsenal.

The Frenchman added:

“Newcastle means a lot to me, and I don’t want the club to go down in my first season.”

“They gave me a great opportunity in the Premier League, so it’s very, very important for me to help Newcastle stay in the league.”

If we do go down we hardly deserve to keep some of our better players who have done the job for us this season. But come to think of it,  there are not too many of those, but Bassong is definitely one of them.

Comments welcome.

Assuming he’s under a contract that extends beypnd next season, then if he’s angling for a move to a ‘bigger club’, then the answer’s got to be a resounding NO and he’s told to play in the reserves ’til he gets his feet back onto the ground.

I may be old fashioned, but a contract’s a contract and players need to be taught ot respect that.

The Portsmouth game *is* make or break. It’s the real ‘must win’ game.

Anything but 3 points and I feel we’re relegated.

However, we can beat Portsmouth. I think our squad is as good as theirs and we have the home advantage. Our biggest problem will be confidence.

Who would have thought it. We brought in an experienced Argentine international and an unknown Frenchman into our defence at the start of the season and the unknown Frenchman has proven to be the star of the two.

I’d like to see Colo work out the problems he’s having in the English game and come good, but we cuoldn’t have wished for a better addition to our defence than Bassong. I hope he stays with us, but I can see him playing for Wenger next season, whatever happens.

This issue of Bassongs contract will prove one thing – if we sell him and cash in then all that crap about being dedicated to NUFC etc will be exposed as a smokescreen.

I do not want Bassong to be used as a cash cow to pay off the debt inherited by MA.

I would rather he play in resrves than loose him to Arsenal (should he go there).

Then again if we go down – what choice do we have!!!!

To sum up in one word – f****d up!

I agree, all of this talk of signing a new contract seems a bit premature. Fair enough if we are offering him more money because of the good work he’s done this season, but we didn’t sign him on a one year deal so he still has a lot of his contract left. If we go down and he wants to go to a PL club then they should be made to pay big or be told where to go. Bassong would be immense in the Championship. But we will never know as we won’t be relegated.

You can’t expect loyalty from players these days, Lampard kisses the badge and then angles for a move to spain unless he gets more cash (which he did) then kisses the badge again, its the same for the majority of players.
They rarely feel defeat as much as the fans, you can see that at the end of a game when they’re all chatting and joking with each other. They don’t give a flying as long as they can pick up thier wages.
Hopefully we’ll see some players trying to up thier performances over the last few games as they try and put themselves in the shop window for a new club

It`s like our guys are afraid to shoot at goal……
we need to try get some shots at goal.
We have had PISS POOR stats all-season not just the last 4 months.
We have seldom had more than 4shots on target in a whole game.
Some games 1 on target-Tis like schoolboy football sometimes.
They need to stand up and be men and take a pot at goal.

Yes he was given his big chance at the club and I suppose he owes a certain loyalty.
However who would want to play for a club thats in total chaos, with any decent players looking for an exit.
Apparently the only ones willing to stay are those on high salaries, mostly players beyond their sell by date.
Put yourself in his position, stay and drop to the Championship league or hope some decent team comes in for you ?

was getting a bit fed up with all the doom mongers today at work like, before the spurs game we needed to win out homes games to stay up, now, we need to win our home games to stay up!!!
    NOTHING HAS CHANGED
if one thing only, that we are in the possition we are in the payers still come up with inept performances like yesterdays, people are maybe reaslising that we are getting what we deserve for the past 4-5 seasons of mediocraty! Just terrible!
However, anyone know the odds for us to win our 3 homes games and stay up??? Will be a good bet i think!

Mate looks like you are upset big time. Same is here, I just can not convince myself that we might go down. Guys get behind team. Cheer in next match and hope hope hope we win it by HOOK or CROOK . I am nto worried about Fulham game. If we win against PORTSMOUTH and BORO, we still will ahve a chance even if we draw fulham .

IF we go down, hanging onto him will be tough, but we’d have to sell it to him that a year in the championship would give him and stevie taylor and Enrique (+ young right back) if he stays to build a partnership that would see them being the best young back four in the country – and the basis for our fight back to the premier league!

I’d say, considering he was playing 2nd divisions footy in France just a year ago, he MIGHT be willing to stay, the issue would be whether or not Ashley would cash in…

Hull look doomed at the minute and with their run in they look like they might only get 2 more points!

4? I can’t believe that. Remember we’re 19th, we have to overtake two teams.

I would say at least 8:

    3 vs Boro
    3 vs Pompey
    1 vs Fulham
    1 vs Villa

    C’mon the toon!

    We are down!

we wont beat Pompy next week and i don’t see why people think we will.

MA has ruined this club and he has the nerve to say it wasn’t his fault. He has lost us a possible 20-25 points which would of seen us right out of the relegation dog fight.

for me it’s 9 or 7 points available

I can say we wont lose at home and if we do we’ll be relegated for sure

I can see us beating Pompey and Mboro and drawing or beating Fulham.

For me Hull will get a maximum 3 points from their remaining games and Mboro a maximum 4

leaving Mboro, WBA and Hull relegated

Type in these results on bbc score predictor along with other FAIR and NON- BIASED results and let me know your tables, thanks and much appreciated 😀

    Newcastle 2-1 Portsmouth

    Liverpool 3-1 Newcastle

    Newcastle 2-0 Middlesbrough

    Newcastle 1-1 Fulham

    A Villa 2-1 Newcastle

I get us finishing 16th, anyone else?

We should take look at our luck also. It depends to the player, their attitude etc. They are professional, experience and some came from big club. We not bigger like this before, that proven we can retain our position above the relegation zone. Should think about it, stay think positive and prise to god too. It’s still our club even what will happen.

Smith has looked alright in his games if you ask me, at least he gets involved and he’s made a few decent passes and even went for a long shot, bless him.

The fact is Butt and Nolan are the WORST midfielders in the prem at the moment and that’s why we play so shit. We’ve been tucked on Nolan bigtime, 4 mil for that crock of shite? nice one kinnear.
