Alan Shearer has just 5 weeks to somehow work the miracle that will save Newcastle United from relegation from the Premier League, for the first time in their history.
Alan Shearer – starts work today on how to beat Portsmouth
There’s a lot of pessimism around Tyneside right now, and there was quite a bit on this web-site yesterday, following Newcastle’s dismal display in London yesterday, at least for the first 65 minutes of the game.
Our view is that we don’t mind being beaten as long as the lads show some fight, pride and passion, and very little of that was on display yesterday.
But Alan Shearer has a job to do, and one thing he will not do is let the squad get too down on themselves, and certainly he will not allow any self pity from the players. They shouldn’t feel sorry for themselves because we deserve to be exactly where we are, based on our performances and record since Christmas.
Alan Shearer is proving to be a monument of self control and common sense, as it looks like his players have again let him and the Newcastle club down, but we also have to hold back on too much criticism, because we can still do it, if the players will only stand up and do what’s required of them.
Alan talked to the Evening Chronicle today:
“There is no room for feeling sorry for ourselves.” “We have to go to work and try to get three points against Portsmouth – and it starts now.”
“I understand why the fans are deflated. We’re exactly the same.” “We fully intended to go to Tottenham and get three points out of the game, but it hasn’t worked out that way.”
“My thoughts are now on Portsmouth and trying to win that game.”
This is becoming a huge test for Alan Shearer and the Newcastle United club, but Alan has never come up short before in his character, and we don’t see him coming up short this time around, but whether he can save us from relegation with the spiritless bunch of players he has taken control of, is now an open question.
We’ll just have to see how we do next Monday against Portsmouth, but we are not going to be swayed by all the good words that will come out of training and in the lead up to our next home game.
How the players perform for us against Portsmouth is 100% of what matters next Monday – and it will now be a little bit of a surprise if they play great. But let’s hope that’s what happens, and they don’t disappoint the Newcastle fans – once again.
Comments welcome.

“It’s a lie because why exactly?”
Er, because you wrote that Dowie has “never ever been a three at the back manager”, and it wasn’t true. That’s what a lie is Stuart.
Roght, lets see with some other Dowie 3-5-2 teams.
“Visiting manager Iain Dowie said: “We haven’t solved our away from home problem and it’s something I’ll be looking at in the summer.
Sheffield Wed (4-4-2): Turner; Simek, Bullen, Wood, Spurr; Tudgay, Watson, Whelan (Johnson 29), Brunt; Burton (Gilbert 64), Clarke (MacLean 46).
Subs: Adamson (g), Lunt. Goals: Tudgay (17), MacLean (70).
Booked: Clarke, Wood, MacLean.
Coventry City (3-5-2): Marshall; Hall, Page, Ward; Davis (Thornton 72), Hughes, Osbourne, Tabb (Kyle 80), McNamee; Adebola, Mifsud.
Subs: Steele (g), Birchall, Turner.
Goal: Mifsud (37).
Booked: McNamee, Osbourne, Thornton.
Referee: P Crossley (Kent).”

Comment #43Stuart, most of the interweb citations for Dowie’s 3-5-2 Crystal Palace and QPR teams are from subsciption services like ‘highbeam reseach’ and ‘encylopaedia.com’, which you may not have. However, the quotes are there in Google if you look. I’ve wasted too much time on this already!

Can accept Duff instead of Owen.
Please do not use Nolan, R.Taylor, Smith &Butt
Enough is enough……
Think about M.Owen performance. He must be replaced, otherwise every game with MO we have 10 lads on the pitch. We need survive.
Do not use useless guys. We need survive.

i think the system that they played was very bad. there was nothing going forward from duff. that was because of the system. He was defending all the time and we were wasting a player in the centre.
3 defenders means wasting one of them. So there was no creativity in the first half. I think we have to blame the system for that not the players.
4 4 2 should be the system. See how we played against manchester home and arsenal home. Yes we were defeated. But we were playing very well. if we played like that we would have defeated stoke. Atleast we would say the players did their best. I cant blame the players until manager gets it right.
GIVE ME THE TEAM I CAN MAKE THEM WIN 4 out ofTHE NEXT 5 GAMES

Definition of ALWAYS is:
AT ALL TIMES!!!!!!
I have proved to you that Dowie doesn’t use and hasn’t used 3-5-2 at all times!
Three seperate teams I’ve given you and neither have been that formation.
About four links you’ve given show Dowie atsrting with that formation at two clubs. The others he changed during the match.
However clever you think you are Worky your statement of “Dowie has ALWAYS been a 3-5-2 exponant” has shown you to be either a lier or someone who hasn’t got a simple grasp on the english language.
Anyway glad you spent so much time looking up all this information. You must be really busy!!!!
Thanks for the chuckle….
Thanks and good bye!
