Habib Beye, since he came back from three months out with injury, has performed extremely well in the Newcastle defense.
Habib Beye – wildly optimistic about points
And Habib continues to be wildly positive about our possible points total as he talked to the Newcastle Journal this morning:
“It’s tough mentally, but you have to stay focused on the hard challenge we have over the next five games,”
“There are 15 points we can get and we start again on Monday. Mentally everybody must be strong because we have the points available to us.”
“If we get those 15 points, we will be safe and we have to remember that. I think it’s really important we stay focused on what we have to do to get out of this.”
“It was disappointing and frustrating not to get anything at Tottenham because we are four points behind the team which is fourth from bottom, but we have five games still to get out of this.”
But let’s face it, we have no chance at all of getting 15 points. We need to win all 3 home games to be safe, but we’ve only won four home games all season and have just one win in our last 17 games.
However, the same was true of Fulham last year of course, and those lads won 4 of their last 5 league games to stay up on goal difference – a miracle if ever we saw one.
And now Fulham are going great guns on 44 points this season, and are in 8th position in the league, a fantastic piece of management from Roy Hodgson. We’re sure this is something Alan will be reminding the players of.
The stats and the flow of the tide are against us, but as we’ve said before it’s that first win that can turn things around big time, just like it did last year for Kevin Keegan. It doesn’t matter how we get it – but we need to win against Portsmouth – a draw will not be good enough, given our plight right now.
If that win does come against Portsmouth, we will then have a great chance of staying up.
