Remember Nacho Gonzalez, the Uruguayan International midfield players who has been injured all season – he may be fit soon.
Nacho Gonzales – can he help Newcastle?
We’ve mentioned many times what a waste of money Ignacio Gonzalez has been in his loan spell from Valencia since last August, and during January, Joe Kinnear even said he would probably be sent back to Spain.
He’s made just two substitute appearances but we must have paid his wages plus around £500K for the privilege of having him play, or not play, for Newcastle United.
The frustrated Uruguay international has been troubles since very early September with an Achilles injury, and appeared only against Hull City and West Ham last September.
Newcastle’s Iain Dowie today actually talked about the phantom player:
“Nacho has had an Achilles problem for a while.” “He’s back and he’s been training with me for three or four days.”
“He was in full training and then had a rest.” “He will fully train again on Thursday and then we will look at giving him a game in the reserves at Liverpool next week.”
We’ve been sent many notes over the season from Newcastle fans in Uruguay who very high on this player, and say he is very good and very creative too, and could do a good job for Newcastle, if he could only get fit. Certainly when he did play for Newcastle he looked very enthusiastic.
Well this is good news, and as we’ve said before we need some heroes at Newcastle if we are to survive relegation, and nothing would please us more than having Nacho be one of the them.

Comment #1funny how all the injuried players are back! Must be that they have to come in every day and can not just sit back and get paid.

Comment #2Strange how the walking wounded have suddenly found their fitness since Shearer’s arrived and introduced the detention and treatment regime.
Four possibilities come to mind: coincidence, a miracle, malingering and they’ve been found out or they’ve been left to their own devices over recent months.
If it’s the latter, then surely heads should roll!
Whatever, if they’re good enough and fit enough, there’s nothing to be lost by playing these guys.

Comment #5Watch him turn out to be an amazing force in the center of our midfield! If this guy ends up saving us, then all of that is money well spent. Hopefully Nacho hasn’t lost too much of his form and isn’t too rusty by the time he’s able to actually play.

Not really Lesh. We’ve had lots of injured players coming back before (including Viduka), only to see them get injured again in no time; S. Taylor is one of the latest casualties. Nacho had been projected to return from injury in the last few games for some time now, certaianly a long time before Shearer was appointed as caretaker.

Comment #8Worky good point but I have notice the urgency to come back where before they couldcome up with any excuse and stay in bed. I think Shearer has made them decide if they want to be footballers or not.
I look at some injuries as having a bad hangover in the morning. Does that mean you do not go to work?
Some of these player would run through the pain barrier if we where in the top 4 playing champs football on a big stage! As Shearer said he was a player and was use to the injections to get him through the games, not just give up at the first tweak.
I must admit it woud be hard to come back to a struggling team as oppose to a sussessful team.

Comment #17Paul Ferris was brought in to specifically get people back on the pitch, apparantly Shearer has long thought that playrs are taking the proverbial.
Detention and treatment regime is definitely having an effect

“Nacho is just the weapon we were lacking”
Well that’s what he was supposed to be, a creative midfield influence that has been desperately lacking this season. But he has been injured for so long, and never had enough time to adapt to the English league when he played. So, by the time he is truly ‘match fit’ and fully in focus, sadly, the season may be over for us.
Of course, I hope this isn’t the case, but if he comes back from such a great setback and fulfils his promise with five games left, then that would be a remarkable achievement.

Comment #23is it wrong that i just laughed at this when i saw it?
i mean i know we need all the help we can get but this bloke should step out for us with harry houdini stamped across his shoulders!
bugger it, give him a go. if he’s fully fit then why not, cant be any worse than the likes of Ryan Taylor. I can just see the training session now, Nacho turning up and everyone introducing themselves to him, wondering who he is considering the transfer window isnt open, not even realising they’ve probably met him once or twice before hand.
