Go on the official club shop website and have a look at the back, it’s horrible.

Notice how they don’t show the back in these photos. I can’t blame them, with the huge white square there.

I don’t understand why we can’t just use another colour for printing the names and numbers, then we could have the stripes all the way up, rather than have to leave a box because the printing is in black and white.

I do like the new stripes though, it’s good to have them covering the shirt (apart from the bit on the back of course). Compared to the last 2 where there’s been huge sections of just black, or just white.

Once again a gloomy unbalanced shirt – too much black. Who “designs” this crap? I preferred the late 50’s continental style or even that worn by Macdonald. Come on NUFC – let us have our proper black and white stripes back instead of this current dark alleyway camouflage.

not too much variation on this years tbh. I mean its different but nothing really stands out at you does it?
I also have to agree with you BKK and say that the huge white box on the back looks awful. I dont tend to get names and numbers printed on my shirts but i dunno if i have a choice this time. Lets be honest regardless where we’re playing our football or who we have on the field, i’ll still buy it.
I understand that the bairns will want the shirt the players are wearing, but i’d love them to manufacture a smaller number of shirts without the box. if you want a name and number on your back, you get the one shown. IF not, you have the choice of a massive white box, or our traditional stripes up your back

Am I the only one that believes the one and only sponsor of Newcastle should be Newcastle Broon Ale.
We were always voted best kit, guess its just another thing thats fallen by the way side…

My “granddad collar” 1996 shirt is still the best. There were stripes all the way up the back of that one and we had white numbers with a black outline. We also had broon ale sponsorship. Best kit we’ve ever had.

Its election day here in South Africa…

Basically with “educated” part of the nation are voting to stop the ANC getting a two third majority vote.
The must be the worst most corrupt government in history :-(, who would have thought they could get more corrupt than the apartheid government.
Voting opened at 9am this morning and at 8.45am is was already reported that ballot boxes fill with ANC votes had been found at the stations…
They already have a massive majority support from the misled uneducated masses, yet they still find it nessassary to cheat!!!! Its so sad.
Africa will never come right until the uneducated majortiy start to look past colour and history when casting their votes.
Oh well, get I have poor politics in my beautiful country and my football side 🙁

Is it just me, or have all the comments disappeared? I swear I already posted 2, and there was another one before me.

Anyway, I think the front looks alright, although I would’ve preferred if they didn’t have all the things vertically. I like it better with the traditional layout of the sports brand, the club crest and the sponsor, like how Nike make their shirts.

The other problem is the huge white square on the back. Why couldn’t we just have coloured names and numbers on the back, then we could have stripes the whole way up.

Speaking of stripes, I like how the stripes go all the way around the shirt now, and even on the sleeve, or so it seems. It looks better if you ask me, especially compared to the last 2 shirts where there’s been big bits of just black or just white.

How many of these players could care less what the strip is like because most of them won’t be wearing it.

Owen looks like a kid that’s been made to put his sister’s dress on.

…unlike Jonas, who looks like he’s just opened his Xmas presents to find a new Spiderman costume!

…ah, bless his cotton socks 😀

Yep. I hope they didn’t waste money getting NOLAN, AMEOBI, OWEN, SMITH or a whole lot more printed with lettering on the back. If they did they’ll be in the basket marked ‘Reduced’.

I put this on the previous post ’cause this thread didn’t exist yet…

This is ok, that’s it…Someone’s already said it, but we used to have the nicest shirts in the premiership! Remember the shirt with the crest on the back? Having an actual design is 10x better than just a block of colour!

And what about the goalkeeper shirt with the Tyneside sunset! Something a bit different!

Also, the ’96 shirt was the 1st I ever got – my sister got the away maroon and blue one and I got the home one. Still have it up in the attic somewhere I think…

Jeez, the back of that shirt really is horrendous:

    https://shop.nufc.co.uk/cgi-bin/live/ecommerce.pl?site=theclubshop_nufc&state=item&dept_id=01&sub_dept_id=10&product_id=190001

….I wonder if they’ve deliberately made it look ‘unfinished’ so the fans have to fork out more quiddages on numbers and letters.

I dunno why they didn’t just continue the black and white stripes up the back and just use white type with a thick black strokes around for the letters and numbers, that’d be more than legible enough.

…or at least just make it look ‘designed’ and not like they ran out of black cotton. 🙁

I’ve a sinking feeling the reason for the big white backs is because the type of players Ashley buys for August in the Championship will have us saying, ‘Who the hell’s that?’ and need a big signboard to identify them.

yea, looks ok, may buy this one since last shirt i bought was the 1999/2000 home shirt. last one with the brown aler on it w/ blue trim.

of course they leave the back free so ppl are forced to put numbers on if they want it to look decent. you all know how this works! take us all for a ride!

tbh, i’d like to see no one buy a shirt, no one. then maybe they will start thinking about paying their factory workers more than 60 dollars a month (dont care if its alot to them, its pitance for a multinational corporation) and stop us paying 40 quid a go. neoliberal, trickle-down economical baloni!
why i havent bought a shirt in the last 5 years.

JJJ….. i sympathize fully with you. its people like you who your continent depend on, the truth will always win the long fight my friend.
we have enough trouble containing all that is paltry and wretched in our own society!

btw, this kit is very championship looking……

Well I have to say it’s a vast improvement over the current strip, which I absolutely hate.

Yeah, the white patch at the back looks a little awkward, but I’ll reserve judgment until I can see it with the numbers in place. I think it should work like that.

20.00 GBP to ship a shirt to North America??? F-ing ripoff for international supporters.

Not keen on that. My favourite was the 2003-2005 one, of which I own two: http://www.oldfootballshirts.com/img/season_shirts/thumbnails/football_shirt_522_1_276x400.jpg

I’ve bought none since and judging by this one it’ll continue to be the case.

arctoa, that’s the last one I got as well. The only qualm I have about that shirt is the strip of white along the sleeve, I’d prefer if they’d had stripes on the sleeves, which the new one will do.

Not a patch on the current one in my opinion. I like how they have got rid of the collar but the pattern looks like it was designed by a 5 year old.
