Newcastle Survival Stakes – Results Go Our Way

If Alan Shearer and the Newcastle team wanted to see a light at the end of the tunnel, then we may have seen a glimmer today in the form of a couple of Premier League results, that definitely went our way.

In the two games that mattered today in the survival stakes, both Sunderland and Hull City, teams 5 points and 4 points ahead of Newcastle respectively, both lost.

Hull City, as expected, were beaten 3-1 at the Britannia Stadium by Liverpool, and are having a terrible run of form this year, almost as bad as the Newcastle run. They have played one more game than Newcastle and have 4 points more, but have a goal difference which is 6 goals worse than Newcastle’s.

And Sunderland did themselves no good at all to WBA today as the home side, who are rock bottom of the league, beat them 3-0, and not only does that leave the Black Cats just 5 points ahead of Newcastle, but their goal difference is now just one goal better than that of Newcastle.

So if Newcastle can beat Portsmouth on Monday night, the lads will be right back in it, and be only one point adrift of safety, with 4 games left, two of which are at home.

Middlesbrough have to play tomorrow, and must visit Arsenal, so with any luck the in-form Arsenal side will take care of business and keep Middlesbrough just one point ahead of the Magpies, with a goal difference that is currently 6 goals worse than Newcastle’s.

And Blackburn tomorrow entertain Wigan Athletic but Blackburn and Sam Allardyce may have a decent chance of picking up some points in that game, but we’ll just have to hope that Wigan’s Geordie manager Steve Bruce, can get the job done for his home-town club.

It’s really Middlesbrough and Hull City who we can overtake and keep ourselves in the Premier League this season, and fortune favors the brave, so we must start saving ourselves, since other teams seem incapable of doing that themselves.

With their excellent win today WBA are just 2 points behind Newcastle, with a goal difference 14 goals worse than the Magpies, so a win on Monday night will take us 5 points clear of West Brom, with 12 points to play for.

We’ve been saying all along that our relatively decent goal average could save us in the end – and we will need to win on Monday night, by as much as possible, but all 3 points will be crucial.

If Middlesbrough and Blackburn are both beaten tomorrow, then all the results will have gone our way over the weekend, and then it is up to the lads to get the win on Monday night against Pompey.

If we cannot do that, when the opportunity is given to us, we will deserve to go down – but we think a win on Monday night could blow the relegation race wide open, and in Newcastle’s favor.

When the lads come out for the game on Monday night we want to hear that almighty roar from the faithful Newcastle fans at the game, that will inspire the lads to go on to get all 3 points, and if we can do that, we have to have a great chance of surviving this season!

Can we do it? Yes we can!

Howay The Lads!!

Nick the glass is totally full. Whe n we win on monday and the likes of Hull, Boro and the Mackems will crumble under the pressure. It’s just a matter of time before the performances come together, especially when we have Martins, Viduka and Owen leading the charge. I feel our luck might have changed slightly after todays results. CMON THE TOON!

    The results went for us

Hopefully boro will be stuffed tomorrow

If we get all 3 on monday we will still have a chance.

I have heard enough of the players BS now, if we are to stay up we need wins not talk. If we only play in the last 20 mins like at stoke and spurs we will go down. It needs to be an on slaught from the start and no let up till the whistle.

sorry Vic but I like the look of Ranger but to give him his first apperance as a start in our biggest game in a decade (at least) is surely a joke? I agree Owen has been worse than poor for a long time and needs to be axed (not gonna happen but prove me wrong you little waster) but not for a bairn, not cos he aint got the skills as we dont know yet but the amount of pressure could end him before he has started.

Yeah, a win is essential. It’ll give us the 3 points we so desperately need, but just as importantly, it’ll give us momentum… and we need that desperately. It will also put a lot of pressure on the teams around us. Some people fancy 3 points against Fulham, but they will more than likely be still in the thick of a european berth dog fight and will fancy their chances. It will be very difficult to take 3 from that side. The boro match is our other ray of hope and we absolutely have to take those 3 points so we can bury the smoggies.

I agree, mate. Pompy and Boro are our must win games. We could probably get away with a draw against Fulham and Villa and survive with 38 points. Although i hope we hit the 40 mark with 3 wins and 1 draw.
