Alan Shearer is hoping to bring back Spaniard Jose Enrique from a knee injury for tonight’s crucial game against Portsmouth, at St. James’ Park, which is being beamed live around the world on TV.
It looks like Joey Barton (foot) and Steven Taylor (ankle) remain doubtful and will not be included in the squad for one of the most important games we’ve ever played in the Premier league.
The St. James’ Park stadium will be packed to the rafters tonight, as manager Alan Shearer has specifically called upon the Toon Army to make their presence known tonight, in an attempt to lift our players.
While over the last 3 games in charge, Shearer has managed to introduce more organization into the side, he has not been successful yet in inspiring the lads to produce an all-out pride and passion performance, that can get us our first win in 9 games, and Alan and the Newcastle fans are hoping that will be possible tonight.
If we cannot get the win tonight things will be dire indeed on Tyneside, there’s no doubt about that. With Jose Enrique back we expect Alan to play a back four and even start the game in a 4-3-3 formation, and this is the team we’d like Alan to start tonight:
Edgar Beye Bassong Enrique
Nolan Smith Gutierrez
Martins Viduka Owen (c)
Subs: Krul Coloccini Butt Carroll Ameobi Guthrie Duff
We don’t think Alan will start that side, as he’ll probably want Nicky Butt starting in there somewhere, but surely now is the time to let Alan Smith play the defensive midfield role, and he’s shown he will play his heart out for the side, if given the chance.
Shearer has hardly held back in some of his bold team choices and substitutions, so it will be more than interesting to see who he starts tonight.
Alan has also failed to use a number of our more experienced players like Geremi and Cacapa, but we doubt he will change that policy now, as they will be just two of the players Alan will move out of the club this summer.
But we need players with the heart and spirit for the game tonight, and they will all need the mental strength to be able to win this game, whatever happens.
Newcastle’s performance in the last 17 games has been worse than pathetic, and that is why tonight has to be when all that changes.
Other teams, Hull, Middlesbrough and Sunderland all conspired to be beaten over the weekend, and that offers Newcastle an enormous opportunity to gain a full 3 points on those three teams. They must take this chance, if they are to avoid relegation this season, by their own efforts.
Failure to win tonight and it will almost be all over, and the team will have to hope that other teams are even worse than they are, in the final 4 games of the season.
Let us know what you think the starting eleven should be tonight.
Tonight is now or never time at Newcastle.
Howay The Lads- we can do it !
