Another game and another inadequate performance from the Newcastle players, and today seems like déjà vu – all over again.
Alan Shearer – wonder if he really wants this job?
Yes we heard all the players last week say how it was a must win game, and that Shearer had instilled belief in the team and the club, and they knew what they had to do last night, and nothing but a win was acceptable – they knew all that.
And what did they do? Went out and gave another relegation like performance.
If we cannot win against Portsmouth at home – who can we win against? Surely not Liverpool away on Sunday afternoon – but it will something like that to convince many Newcastle fans that these players are not a lost cause.
We could possibly beat WBA at home, but they would need to send their Reserve side, just to make sure we could win that game.
Yes, the Newcastle players right now are hopeless, and they are proving that with almost every game they play – they seem to be a lost cause. Where’s all that pride?
And poor Alan Shearer has to look after these little babies, and we don’t envy his task one little bit, but we would have had the whip out before now to these overpaid stars – but that may not be allowed these days.
With Newcastle now on 31 points after 34 games, after having 22 points after 18 games, there seems no way the team can get anywhere near 40 points.
Remember that 43 points we ended up with last year, was the worst ever points total in the Premier league for Newcastle, but now we can only equal that if we win our last 4 games, and we will not do that.
Alan seems to have lost hope in his maths, as he professes he doesn’t know what points total will be enough to stay up. We have to hope that both Hull City and Middlesbrough are even more inept than we are, but that’s asking a lot.
But if those two sides would promise not to win any more points this season, we would still stay up.
Our game plan we had for last night didn’t work, although everything worked exactly according to plan – but for some unknown reason, Portsmouth goalkeeper David James never threw the ball into his own net – if he had done that, just once, we would have won the game – what a spoil sport David has become in his old age!
Alan talked to the Evening Chronicle today and was asked how many points he thought the lads needed to stay up:
“I don’t know, I really don’t know.” “I don’t know what is going to be enough to stay up.” “I would dearly love to think we could go there and get something.” “We will be trying to do that.”
The disappointing thing about this run-on is the inept way in which our players are approaching the task. They seem like men totally bereft of any direction or spirit, or of any hope – it just seems all too much for them.
When you are pampered from the time you are a small boy, because you are so good at football, you lose the chance of developing as men, and it looks like we have a lot of overpaid and immature players at the club – and far too many for our liking.
Alan went on:
“Everybody will write us off for Liverpool. And I understand that.” “But we’ll go there prepared and see what happens.”
“They are under pressure too, they are going for the title.” “I saw them at Hull, and they didn’t play particularly well but won the game.”
“You never know in football.”
It’s hard not to criticize the team too much (although we are doing a good job of it in this piece), because we still have a chance of staying up, so we shouldn’t be too critical.
We have to hope Middlesbrough and Hull produce the goods for us, and don’t win a single point from now until the end of the season – work it out – if that happens we stay up.
As Jim Carey once said in the movie when he was told by the girl, that even if he was the very last man on earth, it would still be a million to one chance – Jim uttered with some delight – so I still have a chance!
While it may not yet be that bad – it’s getting that way – and the players are hardly giving us anything to be hopeful about, are they?
We’re ready for the stories this week that we can get something out of the Liverpool game away, after failing to win against Portsmouth at home – but hey – pull the other leg – it’s got bells on – no way Jose – not with this bunch of players at any rate.
And if they do win at Liverpool, we’ll issue a public apology to the Newcastle players.
Comments welcome.

Comment #121I read your comments folks – again born out of neglect for circumstance.
I have told you a thousand times Actions Have Consequence.
I feared for this very situation and have campaigned throughout the year on the same basis. I stand by it, no one but no one can produce one figure which disproves anything I have said all year.
The trouble is I see to the heart of the matter – you are all arapped up in the emotion of it, you cant help that – you are wired that way – I do see the bigger picture always – and for that I am thankful.
As for the Stavers alter-ego, yes we are friends but sit on totally opposite sides of the fence, he like you is intellectually challenged.
Remember – dont put your hand in the fire – it’ll get burned, it doesnt stop the stupid from doing it though does it.

I have always come on at the same time as Sawdust cos I know him and I know when he is going on the blog.
I have a totally different slant on matters to Starbucks. I agree with you Mickey and the others that Ashley is a complete greedy, incompetent fat cockney gambler!!
I have banged my head against every wall, door and floor listening to Starship and his warped views!!
The man is a lunatic and similar to that of David Ike!!! He tries to come across as intellectual however he is consumed by his hatred of Fat Freddie and lies all the blame at his door. He is grateful for Ashley paying off the debts, which as we all are, however his little pea brain can’t get past that fact. He refuses to accept Jonas, Colo, Xisco et al are bad players. That is what you are dealing with.
No matter how much you explain things, it just sends his pea brain spinning around his empty skull, to the point is sounds like a roulette wheel.
It’s actually quite funny to witness!
Anyway, he now knows his Ashley argument doesn’t really stand up anymore, so has diverted this away to blame the mob!
This great supporter has been to one match this season and that was a spare ticket i acquired for him.
Don’t get yorsels all wound up by him. Think of him walking around the monument, with his tannoy, wearing his David Ike purple tracksuit, praising the higher being Ashley.!
He is a maniac!! Believe me!

I’ve now come to terms with relegation, I’ve been in total denial or blind hope that these 3 home games will save our skin but when the chances fell to who they did Owen, Martins, Viduka (3 times) and Carroll and we still didnt score my heart sank and optimism died.
I just hope if we shunt the overpaid crap off the wage bill if we can maybe have an outside chance of keeping Steven Taylor, Bassong, Barton, Beye, Guthrie, Carroll and most of our young lads and add the likes of Surman from Southampton, Elliott from Bristol City, Lita from Reading and McNaughton from Cardiff and dare i say it maybe even bring Chopra back as he is proven in that league then we will have a great chance of coming back up.
Ive enjoyed watching the Championship myself as it is a hell of a lot more competitive than the predictable dross of the so called best league in the world.

Agreed, If we go down i think Ashley will cut his losses and sells as i have no doubt we could find a buyer as their arent many clubs who are debt free with a fabulous stadium already built and fills it up more often than not.
Can’t say im not looking forward to Blackpool away what a day out! and Facing Leeds again looks a bit tasty as well, 2 Proper football clubs who have been let down badly by inept people in charge and shouldnt be in the lower leagues.

Your box is in your crotch!! No way do i go knocking on there.
You must be dying now your hero has proved you wrong. This is your squad, we wanted to imrove it. That makes it your fault.
If we had kept Zog and Milner we wouldn’t be in the bottom 3.
Deal with it!

I presume it’s because you haven’t got an answer.
Also the closest you get to a box is cleaning the fckin thing.
In summary-
If you are to stop coming on here you are one less monkey to be shaken from the tree.
What a relief! Maybe the club does have a future.

Comment #132Stardust:
‘no one can produce one figure which disproves anything I have said all year’ – this is just a nonsensical statement, since when have you ‘disproved’ what anyone else has said today?? You can’t come up with figures to prove that Ashley let players go and didn’t replace them, it’s just fact!
‘Remember – dont put your hand in the fire – it’ll get burned, it doesnt stop the stupid from doing it though does it’ – you really do talk some baloney!

This pathetic table you posted gave marks out of ten. YOUR marks not the marks of people who actually know anything about football.
Seeing as your so big on stats I’ll give you some:
If you bring in better players to a club you don’t go down the league, stats have shown for all of eternity that better players take you UP the league!
Of memory I think you gave Collocini either a 7 or 8. Think that says everything we need to know about how much you know about football.
Did you also give Gutierrez a 7? A player who has created about 2 goals all season and scored none!
Do I need to go on?

Comment #138Stardust – Statistic analysis? I’m afraid I must have missed that post Statto. And stats don’t show the full picture, I prefer to use my own judgement when assessing players instead of being a sheep that follows the stats. Even you can’t deny the fact that we don’t have enough creative players in the team and a capable left back to provide cover to Enrique. And please dont include Ryan Taylor, as we only got him as Ashley wouldn’t give Kinnear the money to buy a proper full back. The one fact that no one can escape from is that the squad just simply isn’t good enough. And in regards to players coming in its been a very hit and miss affair I’m afraid, Gutierrez has less cutting edge than Milner and Coloccini has made some awful blunders, including the ‘penalty’ incident against Portsmouth when he comically tried to play Crouch offside. Xisco has been a complete waste of money which should have been invested in a more senior player capable of making an immediate impact, Ryan Taylor is hopeless and Nolan hasn’t played well for ages. Yes we made some decent signings including Bassong, Guthrie and Lovenkrands but given the state of the squad we needed a lot more.

Question for ALL-
If we go down-
1. Will you still watch the EPL, or will it be too painful?
Yes (will still watch it)
2. If so, what team will you support (if any)?
None.
