Lovenkrands Preferred To Owen – Torres Out Injured

The News Of The World is reporting today that both Newcastle United’s Michael Owen and Liverpool striker Fernando Torres will miss the game today at Anfield.

Peter Lovenkrands  – preferred to Michael Owen?

Liverpool will presumably be without their star striker, Fernando Torres, becasue the NOTW is reporting this morning that he has suffered a recurrence of the hamstring injury that has troubled him throughout the campaign. And Rafa Benitez will take no chances with the Spaniard today.

If that’s true that has to be some good news for Newcastle, although the Liverpool squad is so strong it will not help us that much.

The other news the NOTW is reporting is something we heard yesterday, that Shearer will drop his captain Michael Owen for this game, and prefer Peter Lovenkrands, who has looked good when he’s played for the side, and is trying to win an extended contract in the summer, so he can be near his pregnant wife’s family in Glasgow.

While most people had expected Alan to play a 4-5-1 formation the NOTW  is reporting he will surprisingly still use 3 strikers, with Viduka up front and Martins and Lovenkrands playing behind the front-man.

Both teams need points, and it will not be a stroll in the park for Liverpool this afternoon, as it was at St. James’ Park in December when Liverpool gave one of their best performances of the season, and Newcastle one of their worst and Liverpool thumped us 5-1, and it could easily have been double that, but for the great Shay Given in goal.

We hope for much better this afternoon at Anfield.

If this is true, credit to Shearer – for once a Newcastle manager has actually looked at form and statistics rather than the BBC pundits section!

Owen has been awful, I fell sorry for him, because I think playing in a below par Newcastle squad has destroyed him, he never knows his role, he never knows where to be (last man or linking the midfield and front row) and he never seems to be in the right place at the right time any more!

Having said that, we’re trying to avoid relegation and this isn’t a time for sympathy – McLoven has looked good for us and if we go down to the championship I’d be over the moon to keep him! Pace, flair and the confidence to have a go, definite threat for me!

I hope Duff and Jonas play along with Oba and Lovenkrans. They are the only players in our side with the pace to counter attack and Guthrie or Barton are the only players with the vision and passing ability to split the Liverpool defence.
So they need to play too. I’d also have Smith as an anchor man.
But i just dont see Shearer dropping Owen… He would NEVER do it.
In fact Id drop Oba too on form and play Lovenkrans with Duke up front.

If available I’d play Barton and Guthrie in midfield but if Barton isnt fit then Smith will do.

But we’re all just guessing here because Shearer will play Owen.

We must believe until the end, is good for us that Torres doesn´t play , although is bad for Torres, he is a great player.
I don´t care at moment who players for us as long the players show on the field our spirit.
I have a feeling of a surprise today.
I heaven put up a party with my friends that are not a Newcastle fans , but they want my NUFC to win.

Not sure that Torres is out, the BBC site has him in the lineup, and as they don’t have to travel I’m not sure how anyone knows yet. Anyway, Stephen G. is back, and that’s an even bigger impact. I wouldn’t mind Lovenkrands, as I like his spirit, but Owen is an excellent goal poacher, and Oba certainly has pace.

I guess I don’t know who I want, if we’re going with a 4-5-1. Prolly a good thing I’m not replacing Alan Shearer anytime soon 😉

I’m very, very unhappy Coloccini is in. I think he’ll cost us at least a goal, maybe two.

Great news. Shame we’ll still get battered like. Gerrard will rip us to shreds.

    …hope I’m wrong, of course.
