Sebastien Bassong Keen To Stay At Newcastle – Shearer

Alan Shearer has talked today to the local Sunday Sun, and has said he thinks our best player this season, Sebastien Bassong, wants to stay at Newcastle United.

Sebastien Bassong – will he stay at Newcastle?
Shearer talked about 22 year-old Seb Bassong this morning:

“Seb wants to stay and the club want him to stay,” “But it’s on hold until everyone knows what is happening.”

“He’s a top player, as is Habib Beye, who been fantastic for me as well.”

We think Bassong and whoever else Shearer wants at the club will stay, if we avoid relegation, but the huge challenge for both Alan and the club is to keep the players they want, if we get relegated.

To many the number one player at the club is Sebastien Bassong, who has the physical attributes and class to be a top performer in the Championship – hopefully for just one season., But that’s the unknown right now, but the lad deserves a bumper contract, even if we do get relegated.

Shearer has been impressed with his defenders since he arrived, and they managed their 3rd clean sheet of the year on Monday night, and the first for Alan, and another one today would be just what the doctor ordered, that’s for sure.

But we are lacking goals, which is why Alan is rumored to be starting Peter Lovenkrands in place of Michael Owen for today’s game at Liverpool.

Alan continued:

“For whatever reasons, there just haven’t been enough goals from there,” “We need more goals from midfield. That’s why Kevin Nolan was bought.”

“We have Middlesbrough at home, Hull have tough fixtures and Middlesbrough have tough fixtures.” “That does encourage me.”

We’ve said this many times before and we’ll keep saying it – we must help ourselves sooner rather than later, and if we don’t we can hardly expect to stay in the Premier League – you reap what you sow in life and in football.

Hey – fortune favors the brave – go for it at Anfield today – please – that’s how upsets happen, and we certainly need one today.

Can you imagine how we’d all feel after the game – if we actually won today?   😀

I’m not counting on a win, but I agree with you, Ed, there’s nothing to lose by going for it. Let’s have a 5-4 game, and I won’t even care which side gets the 5, as long as the lads give their all.

Hope we can keep Bassong. Can be a great rock of a defender for NUFC in years to come. Be brave today Al and go for pace and attack. If that means Butt and Owen on the bench then so be it. Howay the lads – it IS time we took these Merseysiders to the cleaners at Port Sunlight!!!!

I am afraid its damage limitation today to try and keep our goal difference decent as it may keep us in the premiership but unfortunately I doubt it.
