Colin Calderwood To Leave Newcastle In The Summer

It is becoming more and more obvious that Alan Shearer is in total control of club management at Newcastle, and it’s hardly a surprise to hear that Colin Calderwood is expected to leave the club in the summer.

Colin Calderwood – leaving in the summer

With Shearer having brought in Iain Dowie to be his assistant manager, there were questions about the former pair in control, Chris Hughton and Colin Calderwood, who were running the club in Joe Kinnear’s absence.

There were also reports that the three of them Joe, Chris and Colin would be the management team to take Newcastle forward for the next two seasons, but that can no longer be the case.

Chris Hughton however, is a good coach, but not a good lead man, so Chris may still be retained by Alan. But it’s almost certain the former Newcastle and England great, will want to bring in either Rob Lee and/or Gary Speed as coaches, in the summer.

Alan also brought back Paul Ferris to handle all the medical arrangements at the club, and he sacked club doctor Dr. Ian McGuinness,, and is apparently trying to bring former club doctor Dr. Roddy MacDonald, currently at Aston Villa, back to Tyneside.

Colin Calderwood will now seek pastures anew at the end of the current season, and while he has been at Newcastle only since January, it will probably seem like a few years, as far as experience goes.   😀

We wish Colin all the best in his football future.

Comments welcome.

For someone who is only there for 8 matches – he (shearer) seems to be shaking things up a bit. I hate to think how things were before Shearer took over.

@Ed, Calderwood only had a contract until May 09, he was brought in to specifically help Hughton out on the coaching side until the summer

Whatever happens at the end of the season these are positive steps, The first bricks are being laid in what looks suspiciously like a long term plan.

Hopefully Ferris and MacDonald can sort out these ridiculous injury problems that have hampered the club for the past few seasons.

These guys were trusted members of Bobbys staff where we seemed to put out a strong line up every week other than the few injury prone players we had then like Woodgate, Dyer, Cort and Bellamy being frequantly unable to play.

I would also like to see John Carver back in place which looks likely due to him being spotted in the tunnel discussing the team with Shearer in recent weeks.

Bobby spent time with some fine coaches in his time Jose Mourinho, Louis Van Gaal, Don Howe, Sven Goran Erikkson and Ron Greenwood to name a few and he rated Carver as a top notch assistant.

Dump the dross and that counts for coaching staff and players.

Rob Lee and Gary Speed look a cert to arrive as do Dowies rugby coach and Tim Flowers.

If we can stay up and add some energetic midfielders who can pass a ball like Veloso and Michael Johnson, A tricky winger like Adam Johnson, Another striker and our long overdue second left back, Then the future may look pretty bright after all.

Funnily enough Stuart, I really AM watching paint dry at the moment, as my house is being decorated! 🙂

    Correct.

Have a nice ride back to Nottingham, Colin.

He’s done his best, that’s more than we can say about Owen, Viduka, Smith, Geremi, Duff, Butt, Ameobi among others. ‘

I hope to see the back of all those in the summer, regardless Premiership or CCC.
