Alan Shearer Press Conference For Middlesbrough Game

nufc-crest4

Here is the Alan Shearer Press Conference that took place this afternoon for our important game against Middlesbrough on Monday night.

Alan seems surprisingly very relaxed about things.

Alan Shearer Press Conference.

Despite what people are asking for with 4-3-3- against Boro, we simply don’t have the players to play that formation. You need 3 enginees with plenty of legs to play that way, and we only have holding midfielders on our books.

So I expect 4-4-2 from Shearer and the following team:

    ————————HARPER———————
    —BEYE——TAYLOR—–BASSONG——DUFF
    —JONAS——BUTT——SMITH—–MARTINS
    —————–VIDUKA—–OWEN————–

We have all seen Smith and Butt play together and if Shearer and Dowie had any sense it wont happen again. id go for:

    _______________Harper_____________

    Beye______S.Taylor____Bassong____Edgar

    ______________Coloccini_____________
    ______Geremi____________Gutierrez____

    _______________Owen______________

    _________Viduka______Martins________

@Toon_Factor – I’m not saying that’s the team I want him to pick (i’d pick a very different team) but Shearer will not drop Smith and Butt…he’s raved about them too much during the last week.

Like you I’d like to see Coloccini play the holding midfield role because I’ve seen him play it loads for Argentina and Deportivo and he was class every time. Put him in defence and he’s like a fish out of water. Holding midfielder is definitely his role.

According to the pic link I posted with the lads in training it s says Nicky Butt has been one of our most consistant players.

I can attack that in so many ways but there is no point.

I would like to see Danny Guthrie used at some point. He has put in a few good shifts and is young and has pace. Then again Lua Lua is back.

I suspect the 4 3 3 ala Pompey will be used and maybe revert to 4 4 2 depending on how the scoreline (dont laugh) goes.

Off-subject I know, but is anyone else loving all the hissy-fits from Drogba and co?

They’re the worst cheats in the premiership (world?) and it came home to roost last night, when the ref just assumed Drogba was on the floor by his own doing every time.

I feel a bit sorry for some of the players – but that Drogba is as bad as Ronaldo and deserves all the misery he can get.

    Oh, yeah – smogs.

3-1 the Toon. Job done, confidence restored. 3 more points agin Fulham and a point at Villa. Then two premiership sides go into administration over the summer and we end up re-classified as coming 14th.

I know – flying pig time. Never hearda swine flu?

I watched a compilation of Shearer goals on Youtube last night. Big mistake. The likes of Solano, Speed and even gits like Bellamy and Robert on there, banging ’em in against Manure and others with total confidence and skill.

    Cheerist, I miss it.

BUT I honestly think that Big Al can get us back there, now that Ashley has relented on daft ideas like DOFs and seems to be waking up to the realities of what’s needed.

A year or two in the fizzies may be needed, but I’m actually more confident now than I have been for a while.

I know. Keep chewing the sweeties, eh.

I think that if Shearer goes with the 4-3-3 it’ll be something like (Probably a few players switched around)-

    ———————HARPER——————-
    BEYE—–BASSONG—S.TAYLOR—–DUFF
    ———-BUTT—GUTHRIE—NOLAN——-
    ———–OWEN—————-MARTINS—-
    ————————VIDUKA——————

Although I’d like to see us play (Maybe not too unrealistic)-

    ———————-HARPER—————–
    BEYE—-S.TAYLOR—-BASSONG—-EDGAR
    ————–GUTHRIE—-BUTT—————–
    LUALUA———————————–JONAS
    ————-CARROLL—-MARTINS———-

Actually found it quite hard whether to pick Martins or Owen…

    Outclassed

Have you been watching any of our games lately…
The two players you left out Viduka and Duff have probably been the best performances by some distance.
Carroll can come on when Viduka is tired… Duke is our ONLY player who can hold up the ball. And Duff was exellent at left back.

I also would play Carroll before Viduka, and I would play Lovenkrands befor Martins. In case anyone has forgotten Carroll was the last person to score for us and actually looks more likely too. I think Martins has looked lost in the last few games and doesn’t seem to know what he is doing. Viduka does try and has the bottle to stick his head in the way of free kicks but is to ponderous as an attacking player. I would also like to see Guthrie in the starting lineup.
